Husband and I talking about starbucks in fairport village closing and what to do with the building. He was thinking a new business. I suggested tearing it down and turning it into a park as a warning to any other corporation that thinks about moving into the village.

My dad was a bricklayer (retired). His shoulders gave out long before his retirement kicked in. No, he didn’t stop working, he just lived with the pain.
I was raised by a nurse with an associates degree and a steel mill electrician. I am not denigrating the value and dignity of blue collar work when I ask how many elite national media staffers are raising future bricklayers themselves. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...
It's true. I've read I Capture the Castle (and own it). I've never seen an episode of Carson.
It really is odd and fascinating what persists. It seems plausible that come 2048 more people will know of and talk about Dodie Smith and her relatively obscure novel I CAPTURE THE CASTLE, published 100 years earlier, than once-superfamous-A-lister Johnny Carson. Cult art really lasts.
READ: If you haven’t seen this yet, please take a look. Motonormativity ("car brain") is a bias that stops people from making rational judgements about driving. This study co-authored by @ianwalker.bsky.social looks at where this bias comes from & how it works. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Lawsuits and criminal prosecutions are the compromise position. There’s also systematic extermination of rapists as they’re identified. Maybe men need to be reminded of that.
Just found out that the starbucks that hasn’t been in town more than 2 yrs is closing this sunday. That’s right, we starved them out. That’s what loyalty to local business can do. Good riddance.
I mean, unless you're a for-profit insurance company who might have to pay for cancer treatment, then you override the doctor's order for MRI/CT scan to diagnose and whoops, two years later your uncle's died from lung cancer that spread to the rest of his body because it wasn't found in time.
If you see an increase in cancer diagnosis you don’t impose a wait limit on time it takes people to get assessed. You employ more cancer specialists. People are going after a disability because it’s an easy target. This is state sanctioned suffering, abuse and neglect.

Boston spends 6.4 times more on policing than on libraries That probably explains why BPL is facing a pretty big (under)staffing crisis and may have to close some branches Is this really what we want? 📚 --- Graphic via @librariesftp.bsky.social www.librariesforthepeople.org/snapshots
Seeing people in my neighborhood who I know are registered democrats putting out signs for local republican candidates is a good reminder that reactionary centrists will always pull right when they don't get their way rather than work with liberals or leftists.
Every book and arborist website I've read: only prune trees in late winter/early spring before they've budded HGTV: totally wait till after the tree has flowered so you can look at it. it's fine.
Saying we’re not going to vote for someone who is anti trans is the moderate position. We could be saying we’ll hunt you down and make sure you never do anything more remarkable than work at a burger king drive through again.
Everyone love to talk about going back in time to kill hitler blah blah blah but we got a guy saying out loud he wants to nuke the world and yet he goes on living.
Husband and self watched masters of the universe tonight and damn, that is a long ass movie.
Cyclists were the primary force behind organized political pressure for better, paved roads before the arrival of cars and drivers. Drivers now think they own the road and oppose safe infrastructure for all other road users. What if tanks started using roads and were crushing cars and people?

I want to make sure everyone in the city is aware that SUNY Downstate operates a large and extremely skilled LGBTQ and gender affirming care clinic, and we have repeatedly reiterated our intention to go to jail before we stop.
BREAKING: The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Friday that it reached an “agreement” with Mount Sinai Health System in which it will “cease providing” gender-affirming medical care to minors and dedicate $2 million to providing care to those “suffering harmful consequences” of such care.
Pollution levels in London after 10 years of advancing sustainable transport.
when you believe in UBI, it's hard to think "wow that disabled person isn't trying hard enough to work" maybe they shouldn't HAVE to work. maybe they should have a role in society that's safe, comfortable, & "productive" in their own way (incl making art, having meaningful convos, learning stuff)
It’s the teenagers. My village has done nothing about cars speeding and running stop signs for years but suddenly teenagers have ebikes and they’re talking about new laws and enforcement like it’s the greatest crisis ever of the modern age.
Did you guys know that a widely used transportation technology is encouraging Americans to prioritize speed and convenience over physical activity, with grave consequences for public health? It's called an e-scooter and it's time to finally do something about it.
Hey, just a reminder for anyone who might’ve forgot: if your domestic animal is suspected of having rabies, the only way to test is to kill it and cut open its brain. Keep your critters vaccinated.

Bonuses? No. Profit sharing? No. Hiring enough people to fully staff the department? Right out. I’ve been there less than 2 yrs but in my experience and talking to people who’ve been there much longer wegmans is coasting on a reputation that’s about to collapse any day due to nepotism and greed.
A few months ago the department of wegmans I work in posted its highest sales week ever and as a reward we all got brown paper bags full of red bull and sugary candy.
