One thing we've been missing for a while is a major party leader who is willing to do the big thinking. It's not been good for our politics, it's let Reform off the hook for realistic policies, and it's allowed the Cons & LDs to duck their oen hard political questions. I hope that will now change.

Again this goes back to one of my overarching points. What does this guy believe in? What is his positive case? Or is it just scrapping with his perceived enemies?
I just don't think any of this is particularly edifying and we should have strong boundaries within politics about abuse. And doing this stuff is just not indicative of sound judgement?
It’s kinda crazy to me that Badenoch is going this hard for a * council candidate *
Genuinely one of the most proundly stupid things I've ever heard a party leader say, in so very many ways. If nothing else, it's *wildly* insulting to Conservative councillors across the country.
"What is a woman?" Jim Haggerty knows the answer to the question liberals refuse to ask.
Burnham is proving a theory of mine about political comms. There’s a Walter Lippmann line that goes something like: “The press doesn’t tell us what to think, it tells us what to think about.” But I actually think that’s what governments do. They can direct people’s attention wherever they want.
Not only are Reform lightly fash - they’re all, individually, Little Hitlers.
This has really pissed me off, if you're in the area and can afford it go and give the cafe owner some money to help fund the kids meals. And if he refuses buy yourself a nice coffee and tip him as much as you can. Fuck Reform taking food from kids in need. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

Just as I was finishing uni in 2010, I went to London for a job interview with an MP - and another parliamentary staffer offered to put me up. That evening a bunch of staffers came over to hang out - including Walker. Now and again two or three would leave the room - casting a sideways glance at me

Watching the Burnham interview. You can tell foreign policy isn’t really his thing…
mildly funny that X is having blazing rows about Nolan’s Odyssey because he cast black people in it and Bluesky is having blazing rows about whether a noted Homeric translator’s LRB review of it misses the point or not

Scrolling through the feed this morning and idly wondering how many of the UK's problems could be solved were it not for a fundamentally unserious and nakedly partisan media ecosystem and reaching the conclusion the answer is 'not all of them by any means, but a lot more than you might think'.

To every trans Londoner: this city is yours too. Today we celebrate London Trans+ Pride and reaffirm a simple truth: you should be free to live as yourself, without fear or prejudice. You are loved. You are wanted. You belong here.
I tried to listen to that In the Room pod - but had to stop after a few minutes because of the way Cleo Watson was talking about Burnham making the Lobby travel up to Manchester for his economic speech. As if he made them schlep to some medieval hovel.
Just seen a comment about N10N saying “enjoy your Greggs steak bake” because, truly, that is the only food we have anywhere in the North of England
They tried to ban this. They failed. 🌈 Norfolk Reform wanted Pride displays removed from libraries. When @terryjermymp.bsky.social, @alicemlabour.bsky.social & I spoke out they backed down. Today, Hethersett Library has done a little thing that will mean a lot to someone discovering they belong. 💜
This is why the "B..but he stood for leader before and lost! Twice!" discourse was so dumb. Maybe people staying in politics when they lose or fail & sticking at it makes them...better? If we applied today's norms on when you're meant to leave politics, Churchill would've been gone after Gallipoli
I don't remember Burnham having this relaxed communication manner in his 2010 or 2015 Labour leadership contests. Which shows he can learn - & if he can learn this he can learn other things too. This alone elevates him above his recent predecessors.
Did a short video the other day about why Burnham needs to tackle X - both for the good of our democracy, as well as Labour’s re-election youtube.com/shorts/NhNAy...

Not a great interview overall, but this clip is just devastating Elon says Britain is headed towards civil war, the interviewer asks Elon when he was last in the UK, he says years ago, and then Elon accuses the interviewer, **who lives in London**, of living a cloistered life youtu.be/QTGCSYn0piw
