These figures stand out… Only 54% of people in the UK say they trust climate scientists, compared with 63% for scientists generally. The culture war is having a real impact: trust ranges from 84% among Green supporters to just 19% among Reform UK support. www.energylivenews.com/2026/09/09/j...

I’ve now seen 3 different video clips of the assault at the reform conference and each one is horrific. Kicking, hitting with a stick, pulling hair. Grabbing the skull/face, hands round throat. None of the people were restraining in any capacity, they were outright attacking a woman.

Struggling to work out why Jenrick would single out these three Commonwealth countries rather than, say, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, whose citizens have exactly the same rights. It’s a head-scratcher.

Plenty of things to criticise Google for but both Google and Apple map systems get their geographic data about the USA from the USGS, an agency of the federal government, and the only reason Apple Maps US isn't currently showing Lake Ontario as Lake America is that they are on a slower update cycle.

Today the first ever Scottish Borders Pride 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 is happening in Galashiels. Huge kudos to the organisers who have put in a massive amount of work with a focus on accessibility and community engagement. And the sun is shining 🌤️! Visibility for LGBT+ people has never been more important. Happy pride!

An update to UK National Guidelines means that people living with controlled HIV (aka undetectable) who previously were invited for cervical screening every year now only need screening every 5 years - the same as people without HIV. A blessed relief, I imagine. HIV treatment works! Tell everyone.

I spoke about being queer in a religious upbringing to 200 Scottish teens at book event this afternoon. Had seven (yes, seven) queer students and two trans students come out to me quietly in the signing queue afterwards, one of them in tears. I will never forgive those who make their lives so hard.

What Dolly taught us is that it is in fact possible to be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams of avarice but still be a fundamentally good person with a strong moral compass, and the only reason more rich people aren't like that is because they don't want to be.

"How many years has it taken people to realize we are all brothers and sisters and human beings in the human race?” Trans and gay rights activist, a veteran of the Stonewall uprising and an advocate for sex workers and trans youth, Marsha P. Johnson, born on this day 24 August 1945.

Another day another attempt by Reform to attack already vulnerable individuals. Not only will this see people who absolutely need support stripped of it and left to suffer, it will kill off small businesses. It harms everyone, all in the name of promoting ableism. 1/ www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Reform UK plan would overhaul welfare system with £50bn in savings

The party plans to release a full 50-page plan on Monday outlining their proposed changes were they to come to power.

I don't need to drive children around, not having any, but I completely agree with Coco Khan I'm her column. Resisting the flood of SUVs on the market feel like an uphill battle. I really dislike them, and most people driving them can't don't well! www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

They rule the roads and, in their wake, even old-style saloons have been supersized. It’s an illusion of consumer choice, says writer and podcaster Coco Khan
