Reminding my American friends to check to make sure they're registered to vote way before November. Even if you think you are - doublecheck just to make sure you don't fall pray to shennanigans.
One of the interesting aspects of the special edition market is the perception of what makes a book special. Most of the subscription boxes etc have fun stuff like new art or sprayed edges--but what they don't have is sturdier binding. A glued spine instead of sewn will always mean the book isn't
This also has a ripple effect in the letterpress and hand-binding space, as the desire for genre books in a fine-press format has increased demand for experts in an endangered crafts-space. @oliviawaite.com you are going to be at Worldcon, right? I would love to chat about this more!
A thread on special editions, luxury books, and publishing history: In 1903, J. M. Dent created Everyman’s Library, intended as a cheap line of hardbacks to make a classical education accessible as mass literacy rates were on the rise.
I really am the most predictable bitch in the world. I'M SUCH AN EASY MARK. YOU JUST HAVE TO ADD MORE LADIES

Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley
Two different neighbor houses have a bunch of kids playing in their yards and it's so hard for me not to run out and tell the kids the air is trying to kill them!

NEW: Regulators have linked Mark McAfee’s raw dairy farm to more than a dozen recalls and outbreaks that left hundreds of people ill. “I’ve put a couple kids in the hospital,” McAfee said. “But here’s the thing: I’m a pioneer.”
Here's a new Penric cover made for Subterranean Press. Always the kindest people I've ever worked with and an absolute privilege.

Benito is a threat b/c he makes art so alluring and enjoyable you want to understand everything about it and then you end up learning about sugar and slavery and colonialism and the Taínos and Hawaii and then you probably have some thoughts of your own, and that's why art is powerful and dangerous
Just bought a cool organizer and I can't wait to show off my bookbinding tools with it.
