If an author disclaims their use of AI in writing their article manuscript (and it shows in the prose) then why am I being asked to review it? If they can’t be bothered to write for themselves why should I be bothered to read?

Well, the FCC Commissioner has made the decision, first announced in an op-ed in Breitbart, stating that a regulatory body does not have to observe laws made by Congress if they don't feel like it. Every month is new and unprecedented territory. docs.fcc.gov/public/attac...
Latest review of my book!
"An intricate, nuanced and amazingly well-researched journey into the 20th-century origins of a belief in a structural liberal media bias" MAKING THE LIBERAL MEDIA, by @ajbauer.bsky.social reviewed in *The International Journal of Press/Politics.* bit.ly/4xnZeA7 @columbiaup.bsky.social
Finished reading @ajbauer.bsky.social’s recent book, “Making the Liberal Media”. I recommend it as a well-researched, straightforward historical narrative documenting how “liberal media bias” grew to become a binding tenet of conservative identity between the 1940s and the 1990s.
August 2 is the 102nd birth-anniversary of the writer James Baldwin. Baldwin figures in my new book, TROOP MOVEMENTS — as a wartime worker in motion — and as an influence on my analysis. My book traces how ‘Greatest Generation’ WW2 workers came of age — in their paths toward “Sixties” politics…
“Innocent people don’t invoke the 5th (amendment),” Josh Hawley on Hannity just now. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
Trump invokes Fifth Amendment nearly 450 times in N.Y. AG’s civil probe of his business practices
An attorney for Trump said the former president answered only one question, about his name, during the four-hour deposition.

Wall to wall cable television coverage of this Fauci hearing is bonkers. We’re just leaning into right-wing COVID revisionism now?

The hardest thing about being back in the archive post-book is retraining your eyes to search for the next book instead of the last one…
Would assume everyone knows it by now, but just in case "First the traitors, then the invaders" is an explicit reference to The Turner Diaries, where a white supremacist revolution overruns "The System" and kills all their enemy during the evocatively named "Day of the Rope".

X owner Elon Musk indicates he would prioritise political violence (assassination of pro-migration politicians is the common sense meaning) over violence against "invaders" (refugees, asylum seekers, maybe ethnic minorities generally) while endorsing call for violence (killing) against both groups

The vast majority of our outlets are owned by right-wing billionaires and last night our most prominent political reporters spent an hour chuckling along with a clearly senile Republican president as he insulted them incoherently. Here's why our media has a liberal bias problem.
Narrator voice: They did not rethink the dinner.
Have been a member of the @whca.bsky.social almost continuously since the 1990s. Our mission is to defend the First Amendment rights of White House correspondents to report on the president without fear or favor. Unfortunately last night did not advance that cause. Time to rethink the dinner.

Great news for the quoted poster, who posits that vocally "pro-life" profs couldn't possibly be employed at public universities in the humanities, here are two at UT Austin
In new lawsuit, two UT Austin professors say they won't excuse absences for abortion patients
Professors Daniel Bonevac and John Hatfield say they have no intention of complying with the Biden administration's Title IX regulations that expand protections for LGBTQ+ and pregnant students.

Actual faculty getting silenced and fired for their work from the right, and the big issue for a whole bunch of the commentariat is whether there is political discrimination against imagined faculty.
Democrats appear to have new partners in calling out President Donald Trump’s alleged self-dealing in office: onetime MAGA mouthpieces. 👀 “The perception that corruption is a big problem facing the country — it’s definitely increasing as a concern,” @mikemadrid.bsky.social told me. New @ms.now
MAGA mouthpieces are taking issue with Trump’s self-dealing
“We may be at the point now where for a lot of these Trump-adjacent folks, Trump fatigue syndrome has set in — they’re done with him,” one GOP strategist said.

How did Barrack Hussein Obama burn these bags when he wasn’t in office?
You’re telling me China didn’t have my data until 2020? I thought they had everything at least a decade earlier.
