It's funny how no-one ever asks where the money is coming from when you announce a cut in immigration.

Trump on Balogun: "That wasn't even an infraction...this referee, who is a little bit suspect if you check his past. He made a call nobody could believe...he's our best player, or one of our best players. And he gave him a red card. I didn't know what that meant...yes, I asked for a review by FIFA."

Thank you @adamjschwarz.bsky.social for sharing the work of @oursecondhome.org.uk - we can't do what we do without people standing up and speaking up!
I thoroughly recommend supporting Our Second Home — an outstanding organisation doing pioneering work to support young refugees in the UK. More donations = more camp places for vulnerable young people. Every £ donated this week will be DOUBLED by PostcodeSociety. donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05...
This #SmallCharitiesWeek, every £ you donate to OSH is DOUBLED! £5,000 will fund a summer residential for young refugees. With the Big Give, we can make it TWO! We're already over halfway to our target, and over halfway to transforming the futures of 40 more young people. 🔗 bit.ly/4uGe0jZ

And yet amazingly no riots and calls for all white men to apologise for the actions of the attacker. Islamophobia is rising across the UK, stoked by political rhetoric and far right ideology. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Two people were injured close to a mosque and a man was later seen battering the door of a pizzeria as members of the public run away.

Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.
It’s really annoyed me that not only did I not come up with a term with as much inspiring potential as 'anglofuturism’, but that it’s also an alt right fever dream
Anglofuturism and ‘decline porn’: the Brave New Worlds of the right
The British right is squandering its opportunity for renewal in shallow, AI-driven visions of utopia and dystopia

I didn't know Prospect magazine's Benjamin Clark would refer to racist harassment of me on X but he is free to do so. His Prospect piece reports it as my subjective perception - "for calling out what he sees as racist rhetoric on the site" to avoid a judgment call about the validity of my perception
“Last night we had really racist pogroms, or attempted pogroms, on the streets of Belfast.” Matthew O'Toole tells @lewisgoodall.com of having to drive children, whose homes were set on fire during the Belfast protests, to places of shelter. “I’m not sure that experience will leave me for a while.”
Life in the UK shouldn't be a cycle of waiting for whether the far right have successfully fomented race riots near their most vulnerable neighbours and picking up the pieces from their aftermath. It's a cycle that can't easily be turned off, but it has to be named.

I decided not to travel in to see my community's 350-year legacy in this country trampled on by bigots and opportunists, but I'm glad Alona did.
Have made it down to the antisemitism rally in London to see whether Reform uses the opportunity to politicise the real problem of racism against Jews. It hasn’t started yet. Mostly we had 2 musicians belting out Israeli classics, as if this were the best expression of British Jewishness… /1
"leadership demands the ability to hold two truths at once: antisemitism is a real and growing danger, and the protection of freedom to protest the actions of the Israeli government is a democratic right" @yachad.bsky.social @prospectmagazine.co.uk www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/argument/733...
The antisemitism debate contains a dangerous trap
Curtailing the right to protest risks casting the Jewish community as beneficiaries of repression

A whole society response to antisemitism will wither if there isn't a whole society effort to make Jewish life about more than antisemitism, the Holocaust & Israel. If the worry is "how to stop Jews wanting to leave the UK", a hollow community is just as damaging as a community under fire.
An important note within the attacks against the Jewish community taking place right now, where grooming young people is seemingly a key part of their model. It shows that simply policing is not enough.

This headline reads a farce, and it is, but it is also a tragedy. There are likely over 100,000 people – one hundred thousand lives – that have prevented from being saved from war and persecution in each of these four years. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Jews have been standing against hate since Pharoah. Proud to be a part of this diverse community, city, and country.
This antisemitic arson attack is pressure on an already open wound. And because of how news spreads, this will reverberate across the diaspora, making many Jewish communities feel unsafe, unstable, and alone. The only way out of this is with our neighbours. Safety will come from community.
Video appears to show the moment ambulances belonging to a Jewish Ambulance Service in Golders Green were set alight in a suspected arson attack. It is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime. Police are appealing for information - nobody has yet been arrested.
This is exactly what happened with refugees and migrants. There comes a point where public support flips after bonbardment. A shame no one listens when we say if you let the right win on migration, they will win on everything. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

The fact that Nick Timothy is still in the Shadow Cabinet shows Britain now has two major parties standing on a clear platform of hatred toward Muslims.
The Tories' Shadow Justice Secretary is stoking hatred toward Muslims for praying in public. His comments are completely beyond the pale and if the Tories had a single shred of decency, they would sack him.

And as @sabirzazai.bsky.social said elsewhere, "imagine spending a fraction of this to help people rebuild lives, integrate and make a contribution. We would all win."
"Let us administer the poison so that Reform doesn't get to" is morally wrong, politically disastrous, and totally ineffective. In a world of political football where 'political courage' only means beating up the vulnerable - never caring for them - every minority group is fair game.
Shabana Mahmood to limit refugees to 30 months in UK
I’m not entirely sure what the strategic value of killing a man (if they have) in his 80s, on poor health, who’s spent decades preaching about the value of martyrdom. Especially when you’ve said you want to do negotiations again in within 36 hours. But maybe expecting any kind of plan is elitist.
250 days ago, the Israeli and Iranian militaries were bombing one another. Today, they are doing so once again. The reasons will not change, the lessons will not be learned, and the civilians will keep paying the price.
