This Omophron limbatum (sometimes called Spangled Button-beetle) appeared in my garden moth trap last night. Despite looking like a cross between a ladybird and a diving beetle it’s actually a very unusual ground beetle (Carabidae). It’s very active and runs extremely fast! #UKbeetles
I think this has exacerbated an existing trauma of the largest generation getting to an age where they have to face their own motality and diminshing relevance.

Universities and students are not enclosed units, ivory towers separate from the rest of their local communities. They eat and drink (a lot) including spending lots of money in local pubs and restaurants. They shop. They get buses, taxis and Ubers. They put money into local economies.

An obvious alternative would be to cut employee National Insurance. The same £6bn finances a cut of 1p in the main rate of employee and self-employed NI. For the median full-time earner, it's twice as valuable as increasing the personal allowance.
