truly delightful to see two games i helped bring to life at gen con this year at the ennies table and mythworks table. walking around a convention or game store these days is like playing a fond little scavenger hunt; my heart always swells so tenderly to see a familiar face in person.

the standard and deluxe edition of sin eater sat on a black table. the book and box are a dramatic blood red and orange and a skull sits atop a stack of the boxesthe core rulebook of daggerheart sits on the ennies table. it's labeled with stickers for 'product of the year' and 'best game' and 'best rules'

I find the "rules are toys" framing of TTRPG design useful for several reasons: 1. The idea that system matters is reducible to recognising that toys have affordances; while there's no "wrong" way to play with a toy, no amount of open-mindedness will readily fit a bicycle through a basketball hoop.

this does make me an ennie-nominated producer from my time working on daggerheart which is super cool :)

showing symptoms of game cravings. starts in your hands, repeated wrist rolling motions. clenched jaw and hunched posture, accompanied by frequent head shakes and nods. gnawing stomach pains and relentless foot tapping soon to follow. not lethal but incredibly painful

those who do not study history are condemned to repeat it. but those who do study history are also condemned to repeat it, and it's a lot more annoying for them when they see all it coming.

me in development editing: editors are beautiful. no editor has ever done anything wrong. this, collaboration, is one of the truest joys of making art me in copy editing: ah, i see i am beset once again by this foul creature, the "editor," which makes a sport of my suffering and pain,

This is bonkers! My first fully published game, and it sold out at its very first con! If you’re at PAX East today, absolutely stop by the Plus One Exp booth and check out all the other incredible games they have.
