After taking commuter rail in Poland, Germany, Finland, Estonia, and Sweden I would like to say that everyone involved with making Line 2 not electrified should be put into a reeducation camp
The research I do relies on the bound volumes of the bylaws and minutes of the City of Ottawa, dating back over a century. I’ve spent hours in the Main Branch Ottawa Room with these books (pictured). Sadly, this resource was recently “discarded” by the library. It’s a loss for local history.
@jleiper.bsky.social Could you reply with your birth date so I can cite it and fix your wikipedia article? (if you don't mind sharing)
A group of handsome individuals have partially fixed this bench at Pimisi which has been neglected for about 2 years
It would appear they’re chewing up and removing all of the bush, possibly so nobody can camp there anymore. Seems excessive
Weird, 2 days after a journalist/potential councilor posted about a homeless encampment, it's swarmed with bylaw, cops, and heavy equipment. Trillium path past Commanda may be closed. I didn't bother trying. So where will these people sleep tonight? @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social
ALTO/Cadence have launched an online survey asking about corridor travel and opinions on high speed rail. It takes a few minutes to complete but there are important topics like “would you prefer downtown or out-of-town stations” and affordable fares: onqctravel.com
Full R1 scheduled for April 19, this was partially present in GTFS data from last week as well
Oliver Monahan, who was hired to be OC Transpo's associate general manager and responsible for bus operations (given his excellent resume), is no longer working for the city- as of only a few hours after the hiring of Rick Leary as GM
The Glebe BIA has taken down their 2025 RETAIL MARKET & GAP ANALYSIS report that pro-Bank-Street-Bus-Lanes delegates were using to counter the BIA's own talking points, presumably for that exact reason. Dead link: intheglebe.ca/wp-content/u... Backed up copy: filebin.net/y3xt647u5dip...
Listening to the some of the delegations about adding a single block of bus lanes on Bank is decaying the grey matter in my brain there is zero possible chance we're throwing out all of the data to support transit priority to balance the perceived feelings of these people
An oft-repeated statistic says men apply for a job when they have 60% of the qualifications while women wait till they have 100%. Pretty sure that stat was debunked, but … Several men seem to think that being Mayor is a suitable starter job for someone with no municipal experience. It’s not.
Line 1 riders reported 16 different trains on the tracks yesterday. Help @railfans.ca track how many go out today by reporting your car number here: www.railfans.ca/traintracker....
To help residents track how many trains are in service, @railfans is asking residents to report which train cars they've seen in service. If you catch a train number in service on Line1 report it here: www.railfans.ca/traintracker...
Didn’t notice this yesterday, but four 14 St Laurent trips were cancelled back to back, and then the 6:51 trip after the gap was 44 mins late- making for a ~2hr30min gap in service! (@jleiper.bsky.social @arieltroster.com)
Fairly catastrophic cancellations on OC Transpo today. Apparently there were ~70 buses short of what was needed to run service, plus some nasty snow- take a look at some routes!

📸 The O-Train West Extension is coming together! Crews are adding final touches to the enclosed pedestrian bridge at Algonquin Station, creating a safe and accessible link between the station and Algonquin College’s ACCE building. This new connection will: 1/3
Bill 60 means that we will not be able to add cycle tracks to Albert and Slater Street or extend the O’Connor bike lane to Wellington Street. It’s an absurd overreach by the Ford government that will make all road users less safe and waste millions. I hate it here. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Ottawa says new provincial bill likely kills at least 3 bike lane projects | CBC News
New provincial legislation prohibiting how municipalities can build bike lanes means three projects in Ottawa likely can't move forward and others will get more expensive, according to a city report.

Got the LRT wayfinding designs out of my info request finally- there's this "keep it moving" sticker that can go on platforms where people naturally crowd where they shouldn't... @helps.octranspo.com any chance we can get something like this on the platforms at Carleton?
It’s one more reason that I’m advocate for a re-think of Ottawa’stransportation plans, centred around the transformation of CN Rail’s Beachburg Corridor into a major east-west transit corridor connecting our city’s strategic centres and intersecting existing transit lines. 3/
Disappointed in this whole city for not voting bamms snack shack up here
@helps.octranspo.com @somersetward.bsky.social Some very attractive and muscular men came and lifted this bench behind Pimisi back into place today, but there are still a few boards missing from the benches themselves
