Immigrants detained in Delaney Hall have been on hunger and labor strikes since May 22, overcoming retaliation by ICE and GEO Group staff. They've been joined by protesters outside the facility who have faced weeks of police repression. theappeal.org/delaney-hall...

‘Just not Trump’ is the exact platform you would have if your goal was to ensure the conditions that produced Trump remained intact.
We don’t talk enough about how DOGE was led by one of the greatest beneficiaries of government money.
If governments turned off the spigot of money to Musk, he’d be done.
The Odyssey is a nice example of the problem with every effort to "understand" Trumpers. There's nothing to "understand" here: this man has no idea what happens in Homer's epic, he's an arrogant dimwit with a made-up version in his head that he uses as an excuse to be weird and racist. That's it.
Matt Walsh complains that Nolan brought his obsession with nonlinear story telling to the Odyssey, undercutting the original's narrative. The defenders of western civilisation, folks.
This is a good thing. Maher’s remaining influence has been dependent on his charade that he’s part of the Democratic coalition. But that’s been false for a long time. Glad he’s being open about being a Republican now.
Maher slams Democrats, says he’s open to voting for Vance in 2028
Comedian Bill Maher on Sunday slammed the Democratic Party and its socialist wing, adding that he would be open to voting for Vice President Vance if he runs for president in 2028. Maher told ABC N…

This long-form article paints an extremely damning picture of Biden, but also Blinken, Sullivan, Austin, and Finer who all seem to be trying to place the blame solely on their boss.
How Biden Enabled Israel’s Aggression Toward Gaza—and Iran
Top officials from the previous Administration now express regret over their failure to rein in Netanyahu.

This is entirely over, by the way. Bellows has already dropped out. Jackson has more than enough delegates to win a majority on the first ballot with 7 counties to go. Very impressive organizing feat.
Early results in Maine counties show that delegates aligned with Troy Jackson are cleaning up. 69 of a possible 72 delegates in three counties. (That is based on his campaign's estimates.)

I’ve been teaching college courses since Fall 1999 — at a community college, an art school, and two research universities in three different states — and I’ve never once heard this expressed by anyone, anywhere, at any level in higher ed. This is bullshit of the highest order.
It is growing common to hear academics shrug that perhaps students no longer need strong basic skills. That is not pragmatism—it is surrender
Here's a point in Avila Chevalier's favor: AOC beat Crowley in 2018 with 17,000 votes out of 30,000 cast. Avila Chevalier got more votes last night than AOC and Crowley combined - 32,000+. Lander got over 55,000 -- Goldman got more than he'd ever gotten. The volume of votes this year is amazing.
So, people who know NYC politics better than me: in terms of upset, is this bigger or smaller than AOC over Crowley in 2018?
yeah, it's like one of the 19th century famines the Brits touched off in India, except instead of it being the result of imperial bungling & looting, Musk personally snatched food and medicine out of the mouths of millions of starving babies and pregnant women bsky.app/profile/sysf...
Easily the largest modern mass murder by a person who was not a dictator. This really feels equivalent to the atrocities done by various East India Trading Companies. Where monsterous things were done by private groups but given implicit or explicit state approval.
Here's our writeup of last night's big victories in New York, which were a testament not to one candidate or one mayor but the work of dedicated activists on the ground who have completely changed the calculus of politics in what was once a machine state. prospect.org/2026/06/24/n...
The Machine Breaks Down in New York - The American Prospect
DSA and Mayor Mamdani’s candidates rocked establishment incumbents backed by unions and political bigwigs. In most cases it wasn’t even close.

centrists went seamlessly from "breaking up the big banks is racist actually" in 2016 to "maybe Donald Trump is right about immigrants and trans people" from ~2021-25 to "criticizing Hakeem Jeffries is racist actually" now. woke's back baby
My big objection to "woke 1" critiques is that the sort of shallow, dishonest identity based attacks that are often associated with "woke" people are deployed far more frequently by centrist and right wing "anti-woke" voices. Here's centrist thinktanker Jordan Weissmann reveling in this garbage.
New York voted out so many of their Keir Starmers today. It's wild stuff.
