For some I think it's pretty obvious people just don't like the idea rather than the word: "privilege" is a perfectly easy to understand ordinary language word whose activist meaning is just the same as the normal one, some kinda advantage. And there's, at least, no easy alternate for "patriarchy".
It would be a huge step forward for Democrats and for general clarity in political writing if these terms went away. These came mostly from academic hothouses.
Suppose I shouldn't be surprised that someone calling for abandoning the humanities would use "begs the question" like this. (Got 'em folks, got 'em.)
This is why conquering autocrats try so hard not to divide those they subjugate, they know that would only make the conquered stronger.
This is 25 year old Parnia Abassi. She was an English teacher and a poet. She was killed alongside her younger brother and parents in Israel's attacks on residential areas in Iran last night. Say their names. Share their stories. Don't let them erase the legacy of their aggression.
one of the most insane normalized aspects of our political climate is politicians going after their own constituents in the name of anti-wokeness. what are we doing here
“Progressive taxation is the single most important policy lever for reducing the power of the rich—not because it raises revenue that can be redistributed via public programs or directly to the poor, but because it imposes a de facto statutory maximum on income or wealth.” @econmarshall.bsky.social

So ADUs under 900 sqft are now legal in Mass The interior ADUs are funny to me because we’ve essentially legalized two-family homes as long as one unit is small enough Next we should just legalize two-family homes outright
Late last night, with about 15 minutes notice to the Union, the NLRB’s HR sent an email adopting the terms of the forked-up resignation scam. HR also provided us a contract that appears to be drafted by AI or LegalZoom. As labor lawyers, we’re happy to go over this in detail. 🧵

This Salt Typhoon stuff is insane. The entire FISA surveillance infrastructure has been completely owned by China and literally no part of our telecom infrastructure is safe to use without end-to-end encryption.

no longer a democracy in america's 10th largest state. governed instead by a permanent GOP majority, locked into power by rigged maps. Might be the whole country soon. Stealing our country from us.
The 5–2 conservative supermajority on the North Carolina Supreme Court is almost assuredly not going to block any of these new laws. Democrats have a chance to flip the NC Supreme Court if they win judicial races in 2026 and 2028. That's the only plausible path around this power-grab.

Writing a grant is great for developing ideas, but does your proposal actually affect whether or not you get funded? Turns out, your full proposal does not affect your ranking much! Whaat? 😯 Simsek et al. 2024: link.springer.com/article/10.1...
It won't be just the LA Times and Washington Post. It will be your employer, your university, your school district, and your local elected officials. They will all cave and engage in anticipatory obedience to fascism because of their cowardice and greed. Your institutions will not save you.
this is the sort of thing that’s happening while FIRE does a PR blitz about Amy Wax’s right to declare black people inferior

Honestly I would like to find whoever it was who first posited into the public consciousness the idea that there is some sort of conflict between libraries lending books and authors getting paid, because I would really like to kick their ass in about it.
Fave tidbit from the indictment: Tucker Carlson's risible gushing over a Russian supermarket was considered too much like "overt shilling" even for the Russians.
A recently unsealed SDNY indictment alleges Tenet Media—which pays exorbitant sums to Tim Pool, Benny Johnson, Dave Rubin, Lauren Southern, and others—is a front for the Russian government. www.tennessean.com/story/news/c... The indictment: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

unbelievable. a right-wing donor and member of the board of visitors has basically pressured UVA into suspending the University Guide Service, a highly-regarded student org that runs tours, because it tells prospective students and their parents that Jefferson was a slaveholder.
