the thing i come back to, over and over--which stuff like LOWER DECKS got, and so much other latter-day trek has forgotten--is that the whole idea of trek is that they exist in a genuinely horrifying universe, but *choose* to pursue peace and diplomacy anyways... and it works.

The starkest thing about TNG compared to most space opera today is how much it presents the eruption of violence as a total catastrophe, rather than something awesome bsky.app/profile/norm...

Christ does not say to have the 'right attitude' towards your possessions: He says do not store them up. The prohibition is absolute. Earthly property is structurally bound to..systemic injustice. To attempt to secure one's life through accumulation is a rejection of the Kingdom. David Bentley Hart

The image includes the quotation below along with a picture of David Bentley Hart (a middle-aged whote man with a long grey beard):

Christ does not say to have the 'right attitude' towards your possessions: He says do not store them up. The prohibition is absolute. Earthly property is structurally bound to the world of decay, extraction, and systemic injustice. To attempt to secure one's life through accumulation is a fundamental rejection of the Kingdom.

Another reason to be bummed about how TV shows are now eight episodes every two years. It was potent to have a patrician guy on screen once a week, 25 times a year, for most of a decade, solving hard problems by consulting with a team of scientists and diplomats on the most ethical approach.

Leo XIII: Democracy is bad because it reduces political authority to an expression of the will of the masses, unconstrained by the moral law...fine, I guess it's OK if it just mandates people to receive authority from God, to be exercised accordingly >:( Leo XIV: www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...

Pope Leo requested an absentee ballot in Illinois to vote in the midterms

It’s not clear whether Leo, who has been critical of the Trump administration, has mailed off his ballot yet.

If I was in charge of Lucas film, I would remove all Star Wars media past, present and future from Star Wars canon. Then the fandom could enjoy the franchise in its true sublime purity.

This is not exaggeration btw. Sheila Jeffreys is absolutely explicit in claiming the most reactionary elements of first wave feminism as her ancestors and as models to be imitated, especially is their capture of the League of Nations and of anti sex work movements.

When we allow the inheritors of the British feminist tradition that gleefully signed up with the British Union of Fascists call their conservatism "feminism", we further the epistemic destruction of feminism as a discipline and movement for the liberation of women.

And this, ultimately, is what Jesse Gender's thread that got her harassed was about: the fear that the Democratic Party won't fight. Because a fight is what's needed. By fighting they may not win, but without fighting they can't win. And if you pick up the weapons of the enemy, you lose

The big lesson is to treat marketing and mass communications like marketing and mass communications, with its own rules, and logic. Instead of pretending it is a philosophy or debate club.
