Longtime theater person, everyday climate person. Humans are born with rights.

The same thing happened in Ohio to a trans man a few years ago. He used a public bathroom (that the owner of a campsite, who knew him, TOLD him to use) and a mob attacked him. He didn't fight back but when police showed up, they still arrested him. So. This is why trans people are afraid to pee.

A trans couple has been brutalized by a mob, and then the trans woman ended up being arrested afterwards, at a public bathroom in Louisiana. EITM writer S Baum investigates this horrible act of violence in our latest piece. www.erininthemorning.com/p/trans-coup...

Our story details how, researchers at the @ttp-updates.bsky.social stumbled across a batch of ads—including face swapping a minor into a sexual act—after publishing a report on "nudify" ads on Meta last week. The researchers reported the findings to US clearing house, NCMEC

Big Bend holds a special place for me: it was the first National Park my wife and I visited together when we were dating, a big road trip we’d planned during spring break one year. This is heartbreaking.

Today's reminder that the current genAI boom is powered by GPUs manufactured with a mineral called coltan (and other rare earths, and cobalt) mined through the labor of enslaved children in Congo, and the US and UAE fund the paramilitaries which protect those mines and keep those children enslaved.

There may well be active duty troops in the Middle East right now who have family members locked in ICE jails. Congress authorized Military Parole-in-Place specifically to avoid this situation. But the Trump admin has shown little care to families caught in this situation.

"President Donald Trump’s administration has detained dozens of parents and spouses of active-duty U.S. troops as it rolls back immigration protections for military families to pursue its mass deportation agenda." https://bit.ly/4br4M4m

In addition to having no experience in immigration, their website shows Ilya Shapiro (!) and disgraced former law prof Joshua Wright (!) as Senior Counsel. I don't think this massive contract was awarded to give immigrant children effective, zealous advocacy. burkegroup.law/our-team/

I join union nurses in calling for Debora Kapisha's immediate release from ICE detention. To those who can make it, I encourage you to join Maine union nurses for an emergency demonstration today at 10:30 AM outside Maine Medical Center in Portland.

I’ve learned through my union brothers and sisters at the Maine State Nurses Association that one of their colleagues, Debora Kapisha, has been detained by ICE. ICE plans to transfer her to Louisiana, where she’ll be even farther from her family, legal counsel, and support systems.

Debora is a medical-surgical nurse at Maine Medical Center. Her colleagues describe her as an amazing nurse and a kind, supportive coworker. On top of it all, she is legally authorized to live and work in this country. She should be at work today assisting Maine patients and their families. Instead, she’s being held captive by the Trump administration.

This is what happens when a rogue agency is granted free license to carry out a racist, authoritarian agenda without restraint. We must abolish ICE, not give them tens of billions of taxpayer dollars to bring terror to our streets.

I join the Maine State Nurses Association in demanding Debora’s immediate release from ICE detention, and I call on Maine Medical Center to take immediate steps to formally sponsor her for permanent residency.

I cannot imagine what Debora is going through right now, but I’m inspired by the swift action of her union. To those who can make it, I encourage you to join Maine nurses for an emergency demonstration this morning outside Maine Med. Solidarity forever.

Solidarity forever.

"RFK Jr. is wrong. Peru had the highest COVID-19 death rate, not the U.S." 🔸Peru had the highest COVID-19 death rate per capita from January 2020 to March 2023 with 665.84 deaths per 100,000. The U.S. rate was nearly half at 341.11 per 100,000 people, according to Johns Hopkins University.

If you want a perfect capsule to demonstrate how completely divorced from reality the broligarchs and their toadies are, look only to the fact that someone thought a winning strategy is to bring a disgraced one-term NYC mayor to Wisconsin to sell angry residents a data center lol

A video taken Saturday shows former NYC Mayor Eric Adams in sales pitch mode in Wisconsin Rapids, as he's heckled by residents opposed to the data center he's trying to sell them on. "My name is Eric Adams," he begins, as the boos begin to rain down. "You belong in prison!" one attendee shouts.
