I think that this Atlantic article about younger siblings is not going far enough. Parents, stop after one kid. Any more than that is just you being selfish to the detriment of your only child who deserves your undivided love and attention. Children after the first aren't capable of loving you back.

There's a sinkhole on our street getting repaired. My father has front row seats on the porch to umarell it up and chain smoke. His ideal day. Last time there was a work crew on the street he invited several friends over to watch with him.

I am banning SFF writers from writing panic attack scenes. None of you write them well and all of you are writing them the same way. Stop it. I am sick to death of seeing the same scene over and over again in so much literature.

I'm not one of the people who had a sexual awakening to that movie, but the women who experienced sexual awakenings from watching Labyrinth would be my target audience.

I am normal and can be trusted to remake Labyrinth.

i think a lot of well-meaning people fall into a rhetorical trap where they take the bait and argue about male vs. female performance in sports rather than arguing for the value and dignity of women’s athletics generally. don’t let yourself be dragged into a bad faith framing.

the best HS teams in the country have multiple guys who will be in the NBA in a couple of years. they aren't normal high schools, they're basketball factories. but this literally doesn't matter. the value of women's sports isn't contingent on their performance vis a vis men.

And for the really bad news? They've put a target on VPNs. Sites are required to identify (and age-verify) any US citizen, regardless of whether they're using a VPN. In fact, the default is to get the ID and biometrics of EVERYONE unless you can somehow prove their not a US citizen.

Genuinely incredible that a movie helped do this. It’s like the most noble thing I can imagine a piece of art doing.

The SCREEN Act is not just another age-verification bill — it goes much further than anything passed at the state-level or in other countries. 1. The bill doesn't just target porn sites. It goes after *any* site that allows material "harmful" to minors. You'd have to scan your face to use Google.

In case you are actually interested in non-Cthulu Antarctic fossils, the largest collection is at the Paleontological Research Institution in upstate NY. And they could definitely still use an infusion from a wealthy benefactor who fancies themselves an antarctic explorer.

The only people funding Antarctic expeditions anymore are private investors from old money who belong to weird social societies. These rich guys are just obsessed with recreating some expedition from the 30's that only found a couple fossils. I don't get it.

once upon a time, most of the non-police dashcam footage online came from russia, and i asked someone why that was. they claimed that russia was suffering from a lot of crimes and scams at the time, and nobody trusted each other. well, i guess it only makes sense the technology spread.

The TOS being so strict that they control you offsite is the problem; sites like Patreon and Kofi have offsite clauses too. The social criminalization of the suggestion that somewhere you might be doing nsfw is a problem. It's branding a person as obscene and we need consumers to stand up for us
