I rode the train out to Stratford this morning and counted 367 people onboard, twice the number who took the first Stratford weekend train 3 weeks ago. Given how many people got off in Kitchener, and that it was only 6 cars, it must have been packed leaving Toronto. We need more trains!

The Ford government caused a governance crisis in Waterloo Region by forcing Regional Council to sign NDAs over the Wilmot land assembly, and eviscerated the countryside line that had protected prime agricultural land for decades. Their "concern" for farmland affected by Alto is a complete sham.
The Ford government is escalating its infrastructure fight with Ottawa, threatening to rescind support for a federal high-speed rail line after the Carney government said it would block the expansion of Toronto’s island airport. #onpoli globalnews.ca/news/1200172...
The economy is healing, there's listings for terrible basement bachelors apartments with rent of less than $1000 CAD a month again in my town Still way too high for what's being offered, given a decade ago you could get a whole 3 bedroom for just a bit over $1000 but still! Progress
Should there be an Ion stop at Northfield/Conestogo to serve the new development going up there? On the one hand the stop spacing is a bit close, on the other hand I don't see anyone voluntarily crossing the highway to get to Northfield station
This is an excellent rundown of the 4 (infrequent) options from Kitchener to Stratford. How would a casual traveller know that they have 4 options? How would they navigate them? Our intercity transport network shouldn't need an explainer blog post to navigate. @alliebeldan.bsky.social

This is an incredibly informative, yet easy-to-read piece on transit options between Kitchener and Stratford. Given I'm making this trip for the first time shortly, it's timely as well :) Thanks @alliebeldan.bsky.social

I counted 183 people on the first weekend @gotransit.bsky.social train to Stratford this morning! Hopefully the first of many, now just need to run more of them and get the tracks between Kitchener and Stratford back into a state where they're suitable for 100+kph running!

Thank you so much for the hard data! Now I may be just a simple-minded blue-haired transsexual but uh Is That Good?

I graduated from university with good grades and got a steady, technical, intellectually demanding job in a growing industry. 20 years ago this would have meant money to raise a family and buy a home. Instead I live paycheque to paycheque paying insane rent for a run-down apartment, and I'm lucky.
We are living in a dystopian state in Ontario. Look at these ads that our province is running. people don't have anywhere to go anymore - and if you aren't a moment or two away from being in the same spot, count yourself fucking lucky.

If I had a nickel for every time I wished there was an Ion stop at King/Northfield I'd have a surprising amount of nickels but that could probably be assuaged by planting some trees along King to provide shade in summer and a windbreak in winter and generally making King not miserable to walk along
If I had a nickel for every time I wished there was an Ion stop somewhere around Manitou Drive, I would not be particularly wealthy but I know some people who would be
If I had a nickel for every time I wished there was an Ion stop somewhere between Central and Grand River Hospital I could retire off the interest by now
If I had a nickel for every time I found myself wishing for an Ion stop by the McCormick Community Centre, I'd be making multiple nickels a week
$198M / 3,500 parking spots = $56,571 per spot. But no money for affordable housing, healthcare, education, OSAP, and ODSP. Got it.
