FWIW close to Bourbon Street, along the Mississippi, there's a weatherworn statue dedicated to immigrants. That's the thought: person of marble, white because, duh, they're marble. People have draped the statue's raised hand in dangling bright party beads. I took this photo a couple weeks ago.

it’s definitely tied up with innocence. i think especially in a situation like this, with so many people conflating all palestinians with hamas, some might think it’s harder to sell the idea that innocent adults have been killed. there’s always that tiny bit of room for doubt.
