“You’re a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, how come you don’t like Palantir?” “You’re a huge fan of 1984, how come you don’t like the surveillance state?” “You’re a huge fan of Fahrenheit 451, how come you don’t like ritual book burnings?”

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude

They want you to forget that you took care of yourselves and others im 2020 because they want you to be helpless and frightened in the face of the violence and robbery theyre doing

"Bitter people don’t start stealing furniture from work when upcoming layoffs are announced. Petty people do." When I was in design school I was working on a CD-ROM project and found I wasn't getting paid. And that's the story of how I got my first shoebox sized 1 gig hard drive. Viva la petty! ✊

Here is your Saturday read: “Bitterness is a weight made up, not of all the times people told you you couldn’t do something—but of all the times you believed them.” buttondown.com/monteiro/arc...

Friend of a friend is part of a group challenging data center construction in the Scranton, PA, area. Anyone know of any groups they could link to for support or journalists/researchers/lawyers who could help with documentation?

Just want to reiterate: the operatives and politicians who do transphobic bus-tossing never account for how much pissing off their own base costs them not just votes but volunteer time, donors and even positive private conversations with friends, neighbors and coworkers.

Whats worse... A single Democratic loss in a statewide race to a right-wing governor? Or a Democratic Party win in Ohio that uses transphobia to get there, teaching dems across the country that this is a new acceptable tactic? The latter results in no party left to fight for us.

Good on @mayor.nyc.gov for creating a Public Interest Technology (PIT) Crew for NYC! PIT Crews do critical work researching and developing tech that makes peoples' lives easier. We're very proud of EFF's PIT Crew and the work they do to defend civil liberties and enhance privacy & security online 💻🖤

Mamdani forms Public Interest Technology crews to improve government efficiency and affordability

The city will hire teams of technologists who will work through city departments to streamline their online portals to make them easier to navigate.

This highlights (again) how too many professional Democrats don't experience Republicans the same way their supporters do. I never met Graham, so I don't have an opinion on his charm etc. But like most Americans, I did experience his warmongering and his abetting of Trump's & the GOP's fascism. 1/x

What I’ll remember most about Senator Graham was his sense of humor and how he deployed it to move his policy positions forward. Though we did not often agree, Senator Graham was never disagreeable.

My longstanding policy preference has been to torture zero souls, for zero days. My colleague Satan preferred to torture all souls, for eternity. I appreciated his willingness to negotiate, which led to the historic Torture One Million Souls act of 2014 and the Torture A Bunch More Souls act of 2018
