the best HS teams in the country have multiple guys who will be in the NBA in a couple of years. they aren't normal high schools, they're basketball factories. but this literally doesn't matter. the value of women's sports isn't contingent on their performance vis a vis men.

Bad tooth update: Round 2 of the abscess clean out happened this afternoon. Dr wants to make sure the infection is totally kicked. Said it looked really good! Another round of antibiotics to be sure, then finish the root canal. I’m just glad this dentist is committed to trying to save my teeth.

why do I often put scare quotes around "vulnerable" and "at risk"? because people are *made* vulnerable, and people are *put at-risk"—these are not stable categories. we all live in a state of risk, some more than others, and risk is not distributed evenly. we can all be made vulnerable.

People still complain about “lockdowns” but we had none in the US. We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.

For a while now my policy across all media has been I Don’t Want To Pay Money To Feel Bad and it’s been pretty great. Plenty of feeling bad for free/getting paid to feel bad for my job to be found elsewhere.

The onscreen tv guide just tried to trick me into watching the wrong version of The Mummy.

Realized today that my peevish, quarrelsome brother-in-law suffers from being sensitive to judgmentalness that he’s projecting on the rest of us, and that’s why he always flounces off like a moody teenager when we are talking about some things amongst family.

Anyway back to my ongoing theory that women use AI to get more done and men use AI to get out of doing more.

Most rural areas have a ruling class. And they want cheap unfree workers & to pass their fiefdoms on tax-free forever. It ain't rocket science. The fact that we're scared to talk about THAT, ime, is what's costing us a lot of rural voters!
