Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

Kotaku parading that garbage "recompilation" Generation 1 Pokémon project is genuinely upsetting. I was hoping the communities would reject vibe coded garbage, but these people are now intentionally hiding the usage and even lying that it's hand-written to peddle their slop onto others.

Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12

Had a fantastic time talkin' Kaizo and gaming news with @monolithfiji.bsky.social for this excellent podcast. Also got to shout out a lot of friends and their projects as well! Check it out, tell yer friends.

Sin that must be eternally punished is a culturally Christian idea that you can and should reject. If someone admits wrongdoing and changes their behavior, that's the desired outcome. You don't continue to punish because you then signal there's no point to contrition at all, you're damned either way

very honored to have my 3 kaizo SMW hacks all now in the SMWCentral Hall of Fame: Masterpiece in 2025, Sure Shot in 2022, and Super 'Sonic Saves the World' World in 2021. There's so many wonderful games, ideas, and people in the SMW hacking community, & I am so grateful I can be a part of it

Headed to bed, but I leave you with a piece for PC Gamer on End Of Starchild! It's free! Play it! Due to Reasons (good ones, I assure - details as soon as I can give them) this might be the last thing I write for PC Gamer for a long while. I figure this is a pretty good note to sign off with, huh?

I've played countless Doom engine games, so believe me when I say this one that combines the FPS with JRPG combat might be the coolest one in 30 years

Free Doom total conversion End of Starlight is part bullet hell, part surprise RPG, all enigma.

if anyone at all likes FPS games, especially ones with a shmup flavour, play end of starchild. its an incredible (free o.o) game with a lot of depth and thoughtful design that I can't stop thinking about. I'm not even done with it but it's one of the best things i've ever played msx.horse/eos/

I saw a symphony live and it was one of the most moving and visceral musical experiences I've had. I was watching videos of them a bit ago and I was left with the thought that I can't imagine the level of brain rot you need to have to buy into AI in the face of human creativity.

Someone in the ROM hacking space decided to vibe code a level editor for Yoshi's Island to replace one that exists and it is such a baffling misread of the community that I'm just astounded. They also tried to disclaim away their use of AI as if it made it all okay.

SMW Central now accepts hacks for Mario games on NES (SMB 1-3) and GBA (SMA 1-4) plus YI and SMAS, y'all know anyone who wants to moderate hacks for those games ?

DOOM fully rendered in CSS. Every surface is a <div> that has a background image, with a clipping path with 3D transforms applied. Of course CSS does not have a movable camera, so we rotate and translate the scene around the user.
