Also the Republicans were screaming that Fauci helped authorize vaccines for children, which is something every goddamn parent I know was praying for every day for more than a year and have been thankful for ever since. These people are all self-centered idiotic sociopaths, nothing more.

I mean, it would be awesome if someone found a clue that solved the Ripper murder, but that will never happen
What's your personal great white whale of an unsolved mystery? The thing you desperately hope is solved before you die because you need to know the answer? Mine is the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum heist. Where the hell are the Rembrandts. I need the full story
Kanopy has an English dub of AGUIRRE, THE WRATH OF GOD so I was finally able to watch it despite eyes too bad for subtitles. I know, I know—the original is preferable for those who can see. But I wish more streamers offered dubs of the classics. I’ve never seen Kurosawa or Fellini or Truffaut.
Last chance to use your July tickets on Kanopy. If you're looking for a recommendation of what to see, here's a list of the Most-Watched Films of the Week from our viewers in the United States. boxd.it/skWTc

If you want to read a book and your library doesn’t have it, it is truly a massive favor to an author to request that the library acquire it. It really and truly is

Obsessed isn’t the right word, but this was the first song I ever heard on the radio and thought “now THAT is great.” I was in second grade and it was 1988. I was not cool, but I wasn’t wrong, either.

I wish someone would have the courage to do a reverse Taylor Sheridan where everyone who drives a lifted truck is a pedophile, the exurbs are depicted as hives of fascism, and the virtuous and handsome protagonists are EV driving educated urbanites.
Sometimes I read a book and think "I could write something better than this crap" (probably not true, but it feels that way). Then other times I read a book and think "I can't imagine how any person could ever create the sheer magic that is on these pages".
Quite simply: if you put no effort of your own into writing it then why should anyone read it?
Husband just came in to tell me that since the assassination of Abraham Lincoln every American president has been alive at the same time as Herbert Hoover.
I would like one plank of the 2028 Democratic platform to read: WE ARE GOING TO SEND EVERY ONE OF YOU CORRUPT MOTHERFUCKERS TO PRISON.
ProPublica: Trump's FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and fellow Republican commissioner Olivia Trusty received pricey gifts valued at tens of thousands of dollars from Paramount while the company had deals pending before the commission.
Just a reminder that the explosive diarrhea disease going around is called RFK, after the man who made it impossible to track. Example, "I can't eat fruits and vegetables today because I'm worried I'll get RFK."
Talking Heads. I even went to see a revival of STOP MAKING SENSE. It was…fine. I get why people love them, but to me it’s pretty bland.
What band or artist do all your music tastes suggests that you probably should like and yet you don't. Me Plastic People of The Universe. Chet Baker.
Frankenhooker I watched this with some friends, thinking it would be mildly amusing trash. Instead, it was tremendously, amusing, trash, and I highly recommend it!
ok let's do a different, more positive movie question: what movie did you go into thinking you weren't going to like it and ended up loving it? for me, it's father of the year with robin williams
Over on Bluesky most of us "yeah nope"d about this guy when the tattoo was revealed
Graham Platner's collapse is an indictment of what Twitter has done to people's brains, and a major W for this platform and the general idea of "not spending time in Elon Musk's sandbox" slate.com/technology/2...
My sister is a midwife. I’m blind. I think I’ll suck quite a bit.
My brother does stuff with computers at a university, but he's not an IT guy, I don't think. Every couple of years I take another crack at getting him to explain his job in a way that I'll understand it but I haven't gotten there yet.
