there's a pretty simple connection here 1. humans become good at what they practice doing 2. outsourcing to an AI or even other people, means you have stopped doing the thing 3. if you stop doing the thing, you will stop improving, and, long term, get worse at it (cont.)

i really think genai causes actual brain damage. probably faster than most ways you can on purpose give yourself brain damage. and if you hear this statement as literally as i mean it i think it sounds sorta conspiracy nut, but undeniably less conspiracy nut than the apparent sum of its parts

Some friends are teaching their baby ASL as an early bridge to speech and they made the mistake of teaching her “want” as a concept. Now she wanders around the house signing “want” all the time as an expression of unfocused desire. They fucked up and made the baby invent the opposite of Buddhism.

LLMs are not abstractions, they are not analogous to compilers, and anyone claiming otherwise is being basically dishonest about the basic nature of computer programming

the post-covid revolt of the bosses is the biggest factor in the absolute collapse of public support for tech we had a brief window of genuine worker power and they hated it and their primary goal with AI has been to break the workforce so they never have to deal with it again

Been reading some strident arguments for LLM usage from fairly high-profile writers this week, and I keep thinking about this post I wrote a few months ago. I cannot imagine publicly carrying water for a military contractor, simply because you like the emails it helps you write.
