Dear #knitting folks: I messed up this black lace work a couple rows back. Please explain to me how it’s a Bad Idea to cut the black yarn before the knotted open-work, tie in the red carpet thread, & work the cut yarn back to create a safety line before trying again.

Close up of the knotwork in question.

In new filings, former FBI Director James Comey seeks disclosure of grand jury transcripts in the "8647" seashells case. Among other things, the motion cites Kash Patel's gaffe at a public press conference, where he said the grand jury was told that Comey apologized for the "8647" post.

a press release announcing the indictment, FBI Director Kash Patel stated "James
Comey disgracefully encouraged a threat on President Trump's life and posted it on Instagram for
the world to see," DOJ, Federal Grand Jury Indicts Former FBI Director James Comey for
Threats to Harm President Trump (Apr. 28, 2026), https://perma.cc/T7PE-KSUM (emphasis
added), a theory that is legally distinct from and inconsistent with the "true threat" charges alleged
in the indictment. See infra at 12-14; 17-18. The following day, Director Patel appeared
alongside Acting Attorney General Blanche and U.S. Attorney Boyle at a press conference
announcing the indictment. DOJ, Acting AG Blanche Announces Federal Grand Jury Indicts
Former FBI Director for Threats to Harm POTUS (YouTube, Apr. 29, 2026),
https://bit.ly/3TdL85D. Director Patel stated that after making the seashells post, Mr. Comey
issued an "apology" and that the grand jury was told that "James Comey allegedly threatened the
life of the President of the United States, and as you all now know, shortly after posting that threat
he deleted that threat and then issued an apology." Id. at 05:33-05:48. The word "apology" wrongdoing? and thus the grand jury appears to have been led to believe that Mr. Comey
made an admission of wrongdoing. Mr. Comey did not. He withdrew his earlier post in an
abundance of caution and clarified that it was not intended to call for violence.

In this clip, Kash Patel says the grand jury heard evidence that Comey deleted the '8647' post and apologized. Neither fact appears in the indictment. Hmm. Did the FBI director just disclose evidence presented before a grand jury?

BREAKING: In a loss for voters, the D.C. Circuit affirmed a lower court ruling upholding parts of Trump's executive order targeting mail voting, including allowing: ✔️DHS to build a citizenship registry ✔️USPS to withhold mail ballots from states that don't share voter data with the government

Oh, Kumamoto 💔 I still have this on my suitcase from the earthquake ten years ago. If you’re visiting Japan later this year, do include Kumamoto on your itinerary. Such a wonderful part of the country, and they’ll need our support as they recover. Ganbaruken!

A sticker with a heart saying for Kumamoto project on it. It is being embraced by Kumamon, a black bear character.

I think we could all do with some 400-year-old flowering ume (flowering Japanese sour plum-apricot) bonsai in our lives. This is the 75th anniversary Nagahama Bonbai (ume bonsai) Exhibition. And this incredible 400-year-old tree is Furo, meaning Eternal Youth. #JohnDoesJapan

WIN: A Kansas appellate court refused to pause a ruling blocking a law that eliminated the state's grace period for mail-in ballots. As a result, mail-in ballots postmarked by election day will be counted in Kansas' Aug. 4 primary as long as they are received within three days of election day.
