This is not a happy ending, except for the IRGC. It's a terrible precedent that will worsen international tensions. But it can't be helped. It's been inevitable ever since Trump decided on this war against the will of Congress and it's all on his reckless, ignorant, and lawless White House.

as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

this is kind of a hobbyhorse issue for me tbh- i haven't seen the image, i don't wanna see the image, but yeah like pics of your toddler playing in the sprinkler or whatever are private and you should keep them that way but characterizing them as CSAM seems to me to be serving no one here

america is a face culture that pretends it is not a face culture; trump is a particularly reputation (mas macho) variant of that culture. iran gets that america is a face culture, and that trump's entire schtick is built on never "losing", and acts accordingly.

Certain things are no longer acceptable. Starting sitting for family friends at 12 y.o. Then at 16 one cpl went away during the summer for 2 weeks to the Grand Canyon for a rafting trip & I stayed with their kids and had their car to chaffeur them around. This would NOT fly today.
