For years, people seeking sanctuary have paid the price as our leaders repeat the same mistakes: more hostility, more cruelty, and more waste. And one thing should be very clear to everyone: it isn’t working. We're proud to join 200+ refugee orgs in showing our new PM a better way is possible:

EXCLUSIVE: More than 200 charities have called on Andy Burnham to tear up large parts of Shabana Mahmood's asylum plans - including a £10,000 'refugee tax' and the use of military sites

10 years ago, people went to cast their votes in a referendum that would define the next decade. Our broken democracy, our divided society, our corrupt state - not caused by Brexit, but emboldened by it. Brexit is a dead end. It's time to change course. www.anothereurope.org/10-years-on-...

10 years on, Brexit is spent

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Brexit Referendum in the UK. The push to leave the European Union became a useful vehicle for growing division, spreading hate against migrants...

I hope this isn’t true. There are times when it’s more important to put country before party. This is one of them. Burnham’s longstanding commitment to a fairer voting system could transform our democracy & counter the dire threat of a Reform UK government elected on a minority of the vote

Greens suggest they will properly contest byelection in blow to Burnham

Statement follows speculation party would not field candidate in Makerfield or barely fight seat

The people "credible" on migration are the experts, people who provide services for migrants, economists who understand labour markets and migrants themselves. All ignored regularly by politicians/media, 0 funding, 0 resource, death threats and hostility. Gee whizz if only there was a solution.

The glue that can unite both wings is economics, Mamdanism even. But you have to be properly credible enough on immigration both legal and crossings, but of course won’t out bid Reform, but that credibility gets you a hearing then to do the economic/climate piece that unites your coalition.

I've signed up to Substack, I'm going to use to flesh out ideas on the bad guys taking over the world and what we might do about it. This first post is about why we shouldn't rationalise the actions of the mad king as a grand strategic effort to uphold American hegemony substack.com/home/post/p-...

Policy and power in the court of king Trump

The starting point for analysing Trump has to be that there is little strategic logic to his actions in the genuine geoeconomic challenges facing American power

Kemi Badenoch has accused Keir Starmer of not supporting the initial strikes in Iran for fear of upsetting Muslim voters “whose political loyalties are swayed by conflicts in the Middle East, not the British national interest.” That’s quite the claim, and pretty inflammatory.

No one I know is mourning Khamenei because he was a mass murderer. We’re worried because we also know what the Americans and Israelis are: mass murderers.

As a proud serial signer of letters I had forgotten about this one (and I’m told I was the first to sign - so it was a little while ago tbf!). Britain’s electoral system cannot handle the present scale of political fragmentation and could easily turn up a bizarre result. Time for change!

10 years on, still no justice for Giulio. Join us next Sunday to demand answers and mourn a defender of human rights and a seeker of truth. Giulio disappeared while researching independent trade unions in Egypt in 2016. His body was later found, but the world has had no answers.
