What people mean as gatekeeping is they're frustrated they're doing the steps and not seeing immediate/any success. Here's the rub my darlings: if you're in a creative field and do everyone 100% the way you were advised it doesn't mean you will have stable work in the creative field

There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.

I think watching cis people punish each other for standing up for trans people is the thing that scares me the most in this moment. I'm used to them treating us like garbage, but it's new to see them do it to each other. And once that gets normalized, what escalation towards us awaits?
It's hard to articulate the change in the trans community over the last few years. Before it was like "Man, this is hard, there's so much ignorance out there, but we're making it work, we're making it better, it won't be like this forever. Now it's like "Oh, they want us dead."

In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
