in fact i'd say that those of us who know the consequences acute&chronic illness can have—often due to personal experience—& thus promote use of mitigation tools are the ppl furthest from imagining a world like 2019 again. things have changed; we are both aware of & acting to address our 2026 needs.

This is where fuel subsidies go. When fuel prices are high, even many on the left demand that governments just subsidise more. All this does is outbid poorer countries for a resource they need too, inflate prices further & line companies' pockets. Reducing demand for fossil fuels is the only answer.

The people who rail against people ineffectually if tactlessly saying "ban cars" or "just get a bike" tend to be curiously uninterested in this issue which limits disabled people's mobility and puts them in real danger now.

Councils encourage and normalise pavement parking. This practice needs to be stopped. If there isn't enough road space then there needs to be less parking. Pavements blocked by vehicles are a real problem for disabled. Or does convenient parking trump disabled rights? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

In case you missed it over the weekend, JK Rowling-backed Sara Morrison lost her tribunal against the Belfast Film Festival. "The tribunal found that the evidence presented to them did not support Ms Morrison’s claims and dismissed them “in their entirety”."

Sara Morrison, who believes people cannot change their biological sex, had brought a case against Belfast Film Festival (BFF), where she worked as an inclusion and audience development coordinator. She claimed she was forced out of her job after she made a speech at a Let Women Speak rally in 2023, which was followed by a BFF investigation into her participation. JK Rowling backed her campaign to claim discrimination against BFF and donated to a crowdfunding page that was set up at the time. The BFF welcomed the judgment and said: “Throughout, we have acted in good faith and in line with our policies and legal responsibilities.” BFF chair Maeve Mcadam continued: “We remain committed to fair employment practices and to maintaining a respectful and inclusive working environment. “We continue our work, delivering world-class film events for our audiences and supporting the Belfast Film Festival team going forward.” After the BFF investigation began, Ms Morrison took sickness absence from work citing stress, before finally resigning. The tribunal found that the evidence presented to them did not support Ms Morrison’s claims and dismissed them “in their entirety”.
