Worse---his self-defence plea was initially rejected, but it has been successfully argued that the jury should have known the woman he killed was trans and not cis. Because apparently, the woman he killed being trans makes the killing more justifiable.

OK, probably true, but this isn't the fault of being diagnosed is it! It's the fault of social attitudes to these disorders and the way they're dealt with which isn't helped by people saying they're being overdiagnosed which just makes people think someone's looking for an easy way out.

When folks say "not all cops" I have to say: Look, however good someone might be off the job, if they're on the job and looking the other way to prevent their cop colleagues from being arrested for, say, domestic assault, then they've been corrupted by the expectations of the job. So. Let's talk.

Well it is a gang, but ykwim. So cops know cops that abuse women and girls and they sit idly by, reinforcing that culture.
