The government moving or hiding jailed people to avoid review by courts isn't some loophole in our habeas corpus rights. This government behavior has been considered a violation of the people's habeas corpus rights since at least the Habeas Corpus Act of 1679. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habeas_...

Jailors were forbidden to move prisoners from one prison to another or out of the country to evade the writ. In case of disobedience jailers would be punished with severe fines which had to be paid to the prisoner.[5][6]

This will make it nearly impossible to file habeas petitions, because attorneys won’t even know what federal district their client has been moved to to stage for their removal. Something like a third of all people in ICE custody. apnews.com/article/ice-...

Taken together, these rules are expected to add significant red tape for foreign students, researchers, and international journalists — and significant costs as well. DHS's own estimate is that the rule will impose costs to U.S. and non-U.S. parties of up to $443 million a year.

DHS has prepared a full analysis according to E.O. 12866 and E.O. 13563, which can be found in the docket for this rulemaking or by searching for RIN 1653-AA95 on www.regulations.gov. Table 1 presents the accounting statement as required by Circular A-4 for total impacts of the rule. The proposed rule would have a quantified annualized cost ranging from $443.1 million to $448.6 million (with 3- and 7-percent discount rates, respectively) when considering U.S. and non-U.S. parties. When considering U.S. parties only, annual costs would range from $119.9 million to $125.1 million (with 3- and 7- percent discount rates, respectively).

A few minutes ago, two ICE flights operated by Journey Aviation landed in Eswatini, likely another third-country removal of immigrants to a maximum security prison there. Nineteen people have already been sent there on previous ICE flights in the last nine months. Only two have been released.

Arguably, no law in American history was a product of more public deliberation and more attention from the political branches than the Voting Rights Act. We fought a Civil War to put authorization of it in the Constitution. It then took 100 years of protest/lobbying to get the legislation passed.

The decision in Louisiana v. Callais claims, "By 2004, the racial gap in voter registration and turnout had largely disappeared.... Black voters now participate in elections at similar rates as the rest of the electorate" (26–27). This is misleading: White turnout remains much higher than non-White.
