Not a dunk, the reason they care is elite reproduction. Even the 1% school districts in rich area don't guarantee access to elite higher education, while the upper crust prep-schools (50k+ a year for day, 80k-100k+ for boarding) can have 30% ivy rates.

My impression is that they thought it would be easy. It wasn’t and gulf infrastructure was blowing up willy-nilly so the ceasefire was a panic move. Now their hand is in the tar baby and they have no idea what to do.

Learned a fun fact about helium logistics today. It needs incredibly specialised ships to transport it by sea at near absolute zero and a large fraction of them are trapped in the gulf. So even if Taiwan and Korean chip manufacturers can get US helium may have no way to transport it at scale.
