Enrico🐀@redbassett.com · 3d agoI'm not being facetious, this is a sincere take, but after spending many many hours over the years mulling solutions to distracted drivers, I've firmly landed on not removing the distracted part but rather the driver part. We need solutions to reduce phone use driving, but also driving.

honestly more deployment of roundabouts would fix this even more. its insane how better they'd be for everybody including drivers, but drivers dont like 'em bc it reduces -peak- speed which they care about far more than -average- speed
Car-blindness is real! Psychologists or sociologists should study this. Giant two-ton boxes flying all around us, piloted by people who have been rendered psychopaths, regularly injuring & killing our neighbors, and many/most people just ... don't register it. It's just background noise.
David Ho@davidho.bsky.social · 4d agoI was talking to my neighbor when a group of cyclists came by at maybe 25 mph. “That’s so dangerous,” she exclaimed. In the meantime, quite a few drivers came by at 40 mph, and she’s completely unfazed. 🤦🏻♂️
Seems like a good opportunity for a mayoral candidate to get behind a city-run store.

Car ads promise you speed, power & control, which cities cannot provide. In spite of bazillions spent trying to do so.

It’s a toxic cocktail and always there.
If an area has more demand for car parking than it has spaces, making it easier to travel to & from that area using public & active transport is not only cheaper, more equitable & more sustainable than adding/preserving parking spaces; it's also far more likely to actually fix the parking problem.

I have reported to 311. If this is on your ride, please do the same. It's pretty dangerous.
