Saw this piece today, and the "paying private firms" things always sets off alarm bells for me. Unsurprisingly we have almost no concrete data on which systems use private vs. self-provided food, but it looks like CA, NY, and TX all self-provide. I bet > 50% of PPL in prison get public food.

It’s worth the read. I like it because they talk about the underlying mechanisms behind the headlines we see about Trump’s targeting of groups. Documenting and understanding such mechanisms will be really valuable when we start to rebuild, that is, if we choose to rebuild at all. I hope we do.
