I know Tailscale is primarily used for big business boy stuff, but it makes my silly little home network feel magical. It's the kind of software that reminds me why I love computers.
Imagine an issue. Wrong, it's more complicated than that
It's none of my business whether the website I post on is growing, shrinking, staying the same. I am yelling at the sky and whoever wants to gawk at me is welcome
there doesn't have to be an end goal you can just make useful things for people who want to use them, and live a happy life
I also have appreciated @davidcrespo.bsky.social's points of late that capability based critiques of LLMs are just probably not a great tack. it is manifestly true that they can do a lot of stuff. the question is whether the way they do it is worth it/ethical/compatible with human flourishing.
It's a personal offense that some things have to be done EVERY YEAR WITHOUT FAIL and then they just expect you to do them
TikTok has incredible moderation team. Our InfoWars video about Multiple Horse Theory — the idea that there are many horses in the world and not just one — has been fully deemed misinformation and lost the formal appeals process. Confirmed by Larry Ellison: There is only one horse on Earth.
I don't know if we're setting any weather records today, but we might be setting a record for the most text alerts I've received in one day about weather.
The economics of “all the gnocchi in cream you can eat at 1 a.m.” isn’t coming out in your favor, humble late night snacker. The house always wins.
"it is what it is" is undoubtedly the GOAT thought terminating cliché. nothing else even comes close. it just is what it is
They put a button labeled "make me mad" in my enclosure and every time I press it I get poked with a pin. I thought there might be a monthly limit or something but so far it seems like you get unlimited presses
Saw a meme of GenZ baffled by how pre-internet travel worked, and realized we’ve crossed an enshittification threshold where IRL services that once seemed outdated, like travel agents, now seem luxurious: “You meet with a human expert who plans out your whole trip with you” sounds incredible now tbh
You guys are never gonna believe this, but going to a brick-and-mortar running store and getting sized by employees who know what they're doing and can recommend brands and models for you is a WAY better strategy than Googling "Nike running shoes" and buying whatever's on sale
i wonder if everyone knows it’s possible to just say nothing or if that’s something only i ever learned
Did you hear about the DC July 4 fireworks show? It promises 850,000 fireworks in 40 minutes. That's 354 per second. You'll miss up to 142 of them every time you blink. For your edutainment, I proudly present the nerdiest thing you will read about this dangerously absurd / absurdly dangerous event.
Three Hundred Fifty-Four Fireworks per Second — Chad M. Topaz
Organizers promise 850,000 fireworks in roughly 40 minutes over the National Mall this Saturday. I did what a mathematician does with a big number: I divided. It did not make the show look better.

“…the scandal can’t just be that he used AI while working on his book, because he acknowledged that up front. He got in trouble because he had used AI badly, failing to check its work on a task at which it is famously unreliable.”
I talked to the author of the "Future of Truth" book that turned out to have AI hallucinations. He told me he feels "seduced and betrayed" by ChatGPT, at one point suggesting it might have undermined him on purpose. www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...
