Just a bear. LGBTQ+ being. Cars, music, retrotech, alternative. Makes stories, poems, and questionable life choices. Help me learn Mandarin!

Today's #VolvoC70 tinkering - it was giving about 29mpg on local drives, not awesome. Had a suspicion the swirl flaps might be to blame, but not sure how. Link rod only on servo, I think clipped on backwards so it hadn't gripped. In the process, found the elusive ATF dipstick/fixed windscreen seal.

Andy Burnham explicitly stating Russian interference influenced the 2016 Brexit referendum breaks years of deliberate political silence. Downing Street ignoring state-backed democratic subversion to protect political narratives is disgraceful. Why hide state interference? (1/2) 🤔 #FBPE

Meanwhile... I think the #£500cars luxury Volvo four-seat convertible is looking rather smart after getting a chance to clean the windows (and wipe the engine cover while cleaning inside the bonnet shut and fixing a trapped windscreen rubber scuttle trim). It might cost £500 again to make /nice/.

With the windows cleaned and roof raised the second generation Volvo C70 in this picture looks quite handsome and well-proportioned. The black paint hides the dents when the light reflects off the right lines. With the roof down the Volvo C70's spacious rear seats are obvious, and the wide rear shoulder line focuses attention and light on a tapering boot rather than the wide shutlines needed for a folding hardtop. The Volvo's 180hp five-cylinder diesel engine is covered with a silver-painted acoustic and pedestrian protection cover. It is missing a battery cover, however.

Ah, LinkedIn masking and the Jaguar Type 1. So many aspirational 'founder' types claiming to get it and yes, even "you'll never afford one" type comments (that's clearly someone who doesn't see 50 years of old Jags smoking around). I study, as much as I do anything, semiotics in car design...

LBC's Matthew Wright confessed to being 'a bit wobbly' on the case for public ownership of water. So we told him. 1/3 of your water bill is dribbling out to service debts and line shareholder pockets. That's money that could be reinvested in improving the service. Public ownership's a no-brainer.

A £1K Volvo on a forum. A for sale thread with a sudden, dramatic drop in price because of a load of warning lights. "Could it be a module? Wiring issue? Either way, I'm done!" price. So I said "let me have a look" - and as no-one else jumped on it, I took it away ready to diagnose, disassemble...

A 2007 Volvo C70 D5 automatic, side view. This is a folding hardtop car with the roof open and side windows raised, the windows form the impressive large glazed area of the original C70. The picture makes the car look blue-black and a bit scruffier than it is because the road dust sticks to scratches and dents. The rear nearside quarter has some damage, which looks a little worse due to the black paint. The Volvo's interior has survived well, thanks to the simple, minimalist design and good build quality. This era of Volvo has a floating centre console, finished in brushed aluminium.

I think I finally figured out Trump. In the @puscifermusic.bsky.social track Simultaneous, there is a line. We will never know world peace until three people can simultaneously look each other in the eye. My cat raised her tail and stared right at me. Now I get where Trump fits in that triangle.

Not only is NF saying “buy gold”, he’s promoting divisive policies that will encourage people to use gold as a safe haven. Extremely irresponsible and disturbing.

Britons taking “Plan 2” student loan need to earn £63,600 a year to reduce debt. Plan 2 graduates with an average loan of £52,100, and earning £39,039 would see loan balance actually increase by £1,692 a year. England student debt £294.6bn, UK £324bn Median UK employee wage is £31,500. Madness.

Behringer's "AI product registration assistant" repeatedly told me the serial number of a drum machine wasn't a valid Behringer product even when the form it popped up had accepted it. Then told me I'd bought a Behringer Wave in 2023. Or "before the synth was released".

I maintain that consumer AI products would have been received very differently if they were launched with promises like, "You can query this to sort through your inbox of 50,000 emails" rather than "What if artists starved in the streets? :)"

Yesterday my messed up foot and ankle made a click sound so loud that the cat abandoned her hard-won place on a blanket covered lap and fled the scene. I was /relaxing/ and hadn't even flexed it. It's not a joint anymore. It's tectonic plates shifting.

Keeping an eye out for restoration/repair projects - this week, a Roland RS-5. This is a simplified, lightweight rompler with minimal editing, but claims to have the sounds of a Roland XV or SR-JV expansion card. I think it's probably an SC88 SoundCanvas with keys. But it has an arpeggiator...

A 2001 Roland RS-5 64 Voice synthesizer. It was £30 on Facebook and needs a headphone jack and keyboard refurb (only one key, feels weird like the rubber contact has got stuck in an odd place).
