Heba Gowayed is totally right, and there is a robust literature for it. Bureaucratic violence is harm administered without overt force, through decision-making, paperwork, inaction, and exclusion. It reads as separate stories because responsibility is distributed in ways that avoid accountability.

Gary Indiana has no power & water sources are contaminated — people with electric stoves have no way to boil it. These are told as separate stories but they’re the same fact of death by neglect written in different fonts.

It's an intentional tactic to waste time, prey upon a human psychological flaw that treats "we're talking about X" and "X is true" as identical, and to treat oppressed like objects under a microscope, not people.
once again, would be really nice to see more democratic politicians loudly and publicly (1) work to stop the federal occupations of cities through ICE and national guard, etc and (2) defend and praise cities *conceptually* in the same way that they laud "small-town values" and such
appreciate this article and wish there were a hundred more every day about the ongoing federal occupations of american cities. a huge national scandal and outrage.
