As a long-standing Real Madrid supporter I am excited by the arrival of Diomande. I am too, however, concerned about the financial health of our great club. It would be a good idea to sell another winger, for instance, Vini Jr, to balance our books.

Me: (a smart columnist, looking at claims made by an ex-Tory neo-Nazi booted out of the party for crimes, now standing as a Tory councillor whole doing a rehabilitation tour parroting the agreed media line in his new “anti-extremism” gig) This is extremely convincing stuff, and very worrying.

Interesting passage in the mea culpa on antisemitism from Tory council candidate at centre of selection row, supporting the view - fiercely denied by most on left at the time - that Corbyn was a magnet drawing antisemitic cranks into Labour. By 2015, when I was 22 turning 23, this ideology had become my whole exis-tence. I welcomed Jeremy Corbyn's election as Labour leader because I saw him as hostile to Israel and aligned with anti-Zionist politics. In my mind, all of this was part of the same war. Alongside those I associated with, I began targeting Jewish MPs and becoming loudly vocal about what we called "Jew-ish infiltration". One of my peers had been arrested and jailed for targeting Luciana Berger in an antisemitic cam-paign. Rather than seeing that as a

Incredible shit here: the guy Badenoch is defending was sent to prison for sending racist abuse to the MP Luciana Berger. Who then did a whole series of interviews and columns talking about her criminal harassment by Nazis, in a manner intended to make listeners believe it was done by Labour members

Even I am taken aback at the new and surprising ways these people find to insult the public’s intelligence and make it more clear the only operative professional standard in force is “LOL fuck you”

This is important when you consider that the modern right, not just the modern far-right, are rabidly anti-Communist. They know that we'd all be speaking German by now if it wasn't for Russia sacrificing 20m of their own people, and they're more comfortable with that idea than they should be.

NEW: GB News has now spent a year as the leading news channel (though Ofcom treats its shows as "current affairs"). BARB data says it has been ahead of BBC News Channel and Sky News for 12 months in terms of average views. Still losing money, but gaining influence.

Arsene Wenger says he was "not involved" or aware of the plans to sell off the World Cup and has welcomed their scrapping. "The decision to withdraw the project was absolutely necessary and beyond question". His statement does not mention Gianni Infantino or call for change.

Very disappointing from the new Prime Minister, very much sounding like the previous PM. These are among the world’s most vulnerable and desparate people. They need safe routes and humanity from responsible politicians, not grandstanding. This isn’t doing politics differently.

Burnham pledges to be "relentless" in curbing small boat crossings
