this entire article is excellent—I recommend reading the whole thing—but some bits in particular stood out. 🥰 my expectations are raised despite everyone looking WAY too beautifully styled and well rested for a science research setting (the realism of which in the book is precious to me).
![During an eight-week shoot in Montreal last summer, Reinhart and Bateman got to work making Olive and Adam their own. They spent an initial week on set getting to know each other, with Reinhart providing cakes for her, Bateman, and Scanlon to share during long conversations about Olive and Adam’s character arcs—and their love story, which Bateman says reminded him “a little bit of Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett. They’re these outsiders who are misunderstood by people. But in them trying to understand each other, we as the audience get to go, ‘Oh, there’s more to these people than meets the eye.’”
As production began, the co-stars soon became dear friends. “I don’t think Lili knew this, but she was very much one of the reasons I wanted to do [The Love Hypothesis],” Bateman says, adding later, “We are from such different worlds. I mean, literally, different continents, but our approach to the world and our view of it is so, so different. But it worked beautifully well on- and off-camera. We laughed so, so much, and talked about all kinds of things—about love. She talked about her boyfriend, who’s so sweet. I talked about my wife. I was going, “Lili, we’re doing more takes of this than we do in the fucking film. We’re doing 20, 30 takes of this.” She goes, “The scoop has to be right! It has to be this.” I knew, after the first TikTok video she did, that it was massive because my phone sort of blew up—text messages and voice notes from people. My sister was out in Australia and she just sent me a text going, “Why are you all over my Instagram?” and I said, “Sorry about that. I’m doing this film and it’s living quite strongly in that world. Maybe put a filter on and block my name from your algorithm. It’s going to get worse.”

I love Reylo as much as the next Star Wars fan, and you better believe I’m gonna watch the Reylo by another name movie. That said…. Finn and Poe are right there and I think Rey Skywalker deserves two boyfriends who are also boyfriends. Kinda down with Rose getting in there too, to be honest.
