So. This "underlying health conditions" / "pre-existing health conditions" framing is understandably upsetting b/c amid the COVID public health emergency, it became a way of discounting the morbidity or mortality of chronically ill & disabled people. The people behind MAHA leveraged this framing.

The most cosseted people in political discourse spaces are, almost to a person, people who were shaped by elite institutions like this asshole was. Closing the schools and shifting to online learning was the best of a bad set of choices once any improvements to indoor air quality was off the table.

new: officials are building a $7 million “trauma-informed” visitation center at the cook county jail, part of at least $400 million in projects planned at the jail over the next decade. it’s supposed to make for a more “humane” experience—but it’ll do little to address the dismal conditions at ccj.

NGL, if you look at any popular movement or org that was doing well in the last 30 years or so that suddenly collapsed there was probably a rapist protecting themselves by bringing everything else down in the middle of it. Abuse is *the* central organising issue.
