Cracking @blackarchive.co.uk from Brigid Cherry on Web Planet, a fave of mine, but unloved by a lot of fandom. This explores its position as experimental TV, use of puppetry and feminist theatre as well as its roots in environmentalism and WW2. Also you learn all about Roslyn de Winter. Recommended!

I whizzed through this over the weekend. As intricate a case study of televison as you would expect from David, full of insight and connections through a dizzying array of sources. There are already a number of rich, rewarding books about Doctor Who's foundational days. This, happily, is another.

Oh same - there's lots about it that I really like and the DVD Special Edition helps with some of the original editing issues, but there are definitely moments where a more sure-handed director and production team could have escalated it. @purserhallard.com's @blackarchive.co.uk on it is fascinating

I just finished this - another thought provoking @blackarchive.co.uk book from @obversebooks.co.uk, full of original ideas and observations. I loved the chapters on the sound effects and music, the possible influences on the script, and the Dalek design. Excellent work by @oliver-wake.bsky.social.

I’ve just read this wonderful @blackarchive.co.uk book by @0tralala.bsky.social. I loved the tone and the structure. A really thought provoking mix of diligent research and original theories.
