No one should be creating partnerships with HP at this point given the ways JK Rowling is spending her money to actively harm our trans friends. Hopefully Avalon Hill, a game studio within Hasbro, will steer free of this nonsense. I'll reach out to them and put in my 2 cents.

Rascal has done great work covering the ongoing issues of Upper Deck and the their use of the Harry Potter license. Let these offenses be a warning to other game and game product creators: Transphobia and hate are by no means whatsoever welcome in our space! 🙌

Thank you @ttgda.bsky.social for supporting our Block on Upper Deck’s use of the Harry Potter IP. It’s urgent that we speak up and act now *before* we run into more issues that negatively impact our community of designers, players, and media folks. Silence is equal to acquiescence.

Tabletop Game Designers Association@ttgda.bsky.social · last yr.The leadership of the Tabletop Game Designers Association was disappointed to see the publisher CGE touting Codenames: Back to Hogwarts, a new Harry Potter-themed version of Codenames.
The IP in question is and should be treated as toxic, no matter what. Its creator's psyhotic descent into unmitigated trans-hate has poisened that well for the rest of her life at least. Don't support any product or publisher that tries to profit of it, and thereby finance trans-hate.

Upper Deck can get bent. There is no reason in 2026 to go anywhere near the wizard shit license. You cannot claim ignorance. You cannot be silent.

Regardless of what happens with this game, supporting a boycott based on a game's IP is supporting a long term vision for the hobby/industry.

While this statement is in the right direction, this is the bare minimum. Hopes and promises are not enough. In your next statement, we would like to see direct, actionable goals set to make this right with the community. And for the love of all things, say “trans rights are human rights.”
