You want diverse art that is complex nuanced and deals with weighty themes? you are not going to get it from the big money companies. you need to embrace art that is unpolished, low budget, rough around the edges, and imperfect.

Oh this is fucking bullshit!! I used to run masquerades where entrants were just con goers and we had to make sure they could enter and stuff because telling them no opened us up to ADA lawsuits!

it's true. i can only list the manga i translate for Jump+ on my private resume. one of the series was nominated for an award (in Japan) and i love it. if i were allowed to hype it on social media, not only would that boost my morale, it would probably improve international sales 🤷🏻‍♀️

Some movie credits run for over ten minutes, but many manga translators have to beg for clients to even allow their work to be listed on a private portfolio, let alone anywhere that the public can actually see and use, and manga production teams are *significantly* smaller. It's obscene, honestly.
