He/him. I work in climate policy and get snarky about soccer and bikes. Opinions my own. EBFG.

So far this year we've had: the warmest winter on record in the mountain west, a record-shattering heat wave in Europe, once in a thousand year rainfall and flooding texas and forest fire smoke blanketing the mid west and the north east. Feels like something's going on with the climate!

the story of jonah and the whale ends with jonah pissed at God for forgiving the people jonah had been sent to call to repentance. Jonah got so hung up on the fire and brimstone that the good news didn’t seem all that good. many such cases, even outside of theology circles.

Anyway I see the same thing happening in the Climate Doom people. There's this very visceral and convincing version of the world that they had envisioned that would require some very painful moral choices to adapt to, and it turns out "batteries + solar" are basically able to fix the problem.

So, VAR steps in to give Embolo a second yellow because the referee made the wrong decision in the first place to book Paredes? If it was just a foul, not a yellow, it’s not reviewable. Pure insanity. Game’s gone. Less VAR man. For the love of god

Lorenzo Salgado lived here longer than I’ve been alive, married to his wife of 30 years. Worked a blue collar job building houses to put his three kids through college. A real American and the kind of man they tell you you’re supposed to be. Fascism is so perverse.

"Ronaldo Salgado, the eldest son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, said he recognized his dad's voice as he bled out after being shot by an immigration officer in Houston."

This is basically where I'm at too: large swaths of finance, business, media, Middle East govts, and other powerful circles went all-in on Trump—even if some still tell themselves they didn't—so they're now doing a Wile E. Coyote "don't look down" to avoid reckoning with it for as long as possible.

this is honestly the most cynical I have ever been, it is just "he has to succeed because if he doesn't we're fucked" being repeated ad nauseum

Seriously: everybody loved the walkable downtown vibe of Seattle during the World Cup. *Everyone.* They wrote articles about it in newspapers around the world! We cemented our reputation as a global city! And now ... we just have to let all the cars back in? Why?

Gonna be some "Belgium is that good" talk and you don't have to fall for these lies. USMNT fell head first into a trash can here, Belgium just accepted the win that was there to accept. Didn't need to get out of 2nd gear.
