He/him. I work in climate policy and get snarky about soccer and bikes. Opinions my own. EBFG.
Don't look now, but the world has now installed 3TW of solar. Took 10 years to get from 100GW to 1TW. Less than 3 years to get to 2TW. Less than 2 years to get to 3TW. Analysts expect *9TW* by 2036.
The World Crossed a Major Solar Milestone. No One Noticed
The next phase of the boom may reveal a shift in who is gaining access to the technology.

The biggest technological revolution of our lifetime and it has nothing to do with AI, crypto, metaverse, robots or any of the other massively hyped "tech" the media always talks about instead
Absolutely unbelievable how solar power has taken off worldwide during the Hormuz oil crisis. You don't have to hand it to him, but Trump may have done more to finally kick off a global civilization of effete librul solar users than anyone else in the West
People potentially subject to the nyc pied-à-terre tax are being treated with 1% of the administrative hostility of SNAP and Medicaid applicants, and they’re throwing 100x the fit
Soccer is much more fun when the team I like can actually score
I'm not gonna panic until the Roldans are back but these have been some dire halves of soccer by the Sounders

Scoop: The Trump administration is considering military options in Mali against Islamist militants at the urging of Sebastian Gorka, per officials. If approved, it would add an 8th nation to the list of countries Trump has bombed in his second term
No world in which this is a foul except when you play against Argentina.
All that halftime show needed was Muppets and Shakira. This is true of life too.
These are some rusty sounders, I’ll tell ya what
So far this year we've had: the warmest winter on record in the mountain west, a record-shattering heat wave in Europe, once in a thousand year rainfall and flooding texas and forest fire smoke blanketing the mid west and the north east. Feels like something's going on with the climate!
the story of jonah and the whale ends with jonah pissed at God for forgiving the people jonah had been sent to call to repentance. Jonah got so hung up on the fire and brimstone that the good news didn’t seem all that good. many such cases, even outside of theology circles.
Anyway I see the same thing happening in the Climate Doom people. There's this very visceral and convincing version of the world that they had envisioned that would require some very painful moral choices to adapt to, and it turns out "batteries + solar" are basically able to fix the problem.
Argentina the first team I’ve seen get yellows for complaining while celebrating a goal
So, VAR steps in to give Embolo a second yellow because the referee made the wrong decision in the first place to book Paredes? If it was just a foul, not a yellow, it’s not reviewable. Pure insanity. Game’s gone. Less VAR man. For the love of god
every time a stutter step penalty is saved an angel gets its wings
Lorenzo Salgado lived here longer than I’ve been alive, married to his wife of 30 years. Worked a blue collar job building houses to put his three kids through college. A real American and the kind of man they tell you you’re supposed to be. Fascism is so perverse.
"Ronaldo Salgado, the eldest son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, said he recognized his dad's voice as he bled out after being shot by an immigration officer in Houston."
(Clean Sheets, Goals Against) (5, 11): Andrew Thomas (3, 21): Matt Freese (1, 38): Maxime Crapeau
Jackson Ragen is only Sounder named to MLS All-Star Game. Biggest snub is probably Andrew Thomas, who loses out to Maxime Crepeau and Matt Freese. Presumably Dean Smith was more impressed with World Cup status than MLS play.
This is basically where I'm at too: large swaths of finance, business, media, Middle East govts, and other powerful circles went all-in on Trump—even if some still tell themselves they didn't—so they're now doing a Wile E. Coyote "don't look down" to avoid reckoning with it for as long as possible.
this is honestly the most cynical I have ever been, it is just "he has to succeed because if he doesn't we're fucked" being repeated ad nauseum
there is a cohort of men who resent the responsibilities and obligations of adulthood — of the fact that you owe things to other people. it is a fundamentally childish impulse that they have reconfigured as the height of masculinity, and i think it informs the parasocial attraction to platner.
what a fucking asshole
Seriously: everybody loved the walkable downtown vibe of Seattle during the World Cup. *Everyone.* They wrote articles about it in newspapers around the world! We cemented our reputation as a global city! And now ... we just have to let all the cars back in? Why?
Gonna be some "Belgium is that good" talk and you don't have to fall for these lies. USMNT fell head first into a trash can here, Belgium just accepted the win that was there to accept. Didn't need to get out of 2nd gear.
