there literally is no system that is abuse proof, so at a certain point you’re just against the abstract concept of authority or power in general. I think about this when it comes to ALPRs for traffic enforcement. Like if you want to have laws at all, you have to give someone power.

I react very poorly when any proposed policy or plan is met with "but what if someone like Trump gets hold of it?? then it would be not good, but very bad" because there really is no law or institution that can work when a population is willing to elect the stupidest, worst asshole alive

Sometimes I think about where we would be as a culture today if #MeToo in 2017 had radicalized more straight men into fighting sexual abuse instead of creating a culture of "oh god don't get me CANCELED" and "fake accusations" paranoia and resentment

"Gouged" is OUT! I started this book angry about all the ways corporations are ripping us off. I finished it hopeful, because once you know how they're doing it—you can start to fight back. Thanks to everyone who has been part of this. Now go read it.

This is *the* piece. Kate Manne, professor of philosophy at Cornell, speaks truth to the totality of failures at the university — and why students protesting the war in Gaza have faced far harsher consequences than any of the Cornell 7: www.thecut.com/article/what...

What It Feels Like at Cornell Right Now

As a professor at the Ivy League school, Kate Manne has known many, many victims. There’s a palpable feeling on campus, she writes, that this is big.

I literally don’t know a single woman who hasn’t been raped, stalked, groped, harassed, or sexually violated in some way at some point in their life. If you choose to doubt and dox survivors, just know every woman in your life is disgusted by you.

The Heritage Foundation laid out how they were going to rescind Title IX, the law that prohibits sex discrimination in education, by first targeting trans people's participation in sport. Capitulating on the human rights of transgender people is catastrophically falling at the first hurdle.

a lot of people act like there's a trade being offered where we give up trans athletes in sports and in exchange fascism is defeated forever

Men, please just shut up. Share what you want about Cornell, respond with the actions you're going to take, etc, but please, if you're just going to treat this as an opportunity to blab, to boast, to fake braveness, you are not helping the people in your lives regularly harmed by patriarchy.

For me, the hardest thing about stories like the Cornell gang rape case isn’t reading the initial details—although that is hard. What’s even harder is when men online, especially the journalists and pundits, start trying to combat the feminist outrage by purposefully seeding doubt and victim-blaming

the cornell case has me thinking about christine blasey ford and how she so bravely testified in 2018 about how future supreme court justice brett kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her. i'm thinking about what i wrote at the time and how nothing has changed:

Fuck that. They need to be fined into oblivion. This isn’t just stealing their user’s data, it’s the data of everyone their users know. And it will certainly include data about underage family members, medical data, explicit images and messages. So many levels of illegal and immoral.

Norway produces more oil than Venezuela. And yet, between January and August 2026, electric vehicles made up 97.8 percent of all new cars sold in that country. Moving to EVs is often based on intelligence, not need. Which is why it lags in the notoriously short-sighted and stupid United States.
