I'm a solo indie dev working on some neato stuff. He / Him.
maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me
The video advertising Unity's ew AI-driven autocomplete game maker has 'Mari' who has a game idea they "always wanted to make" and that idea is "Space Corridor" and it looks like this, and that's the strongest argument I can think of for keeping game dev out of the pro-AI crowd's hands.
"AI lets you focus on the higher level ideas!!" because we all grew up dreaming of becoming managers and CEOs we all know the real artists at the very highest level are the shareholders, famously full of amazing ideas
CD Project Red makes great games but I get really annoyed at their writing. So many of their quests feature scenarios that have an obvious middle ground, but that's simply not an option because they have to stick to their "no matter what you choose, there's ridiculous consequences" nihilism.
people forming their video game opinions on whatever youtubers say has many negative impacts but one that’s always a sore spot to me is whenever people refuse to give a game a fair shot just because it happens to have notable glitches or is buggy
I think the thing that bothers me the most about gamers having a toxic attitude towards game developers is that it's actually in gamers' best interest to show solidarity with developers against the actual thing that's ruining their favourite games: corporations
I've posted these screenshots of Chris O'Neill tweets before and took them down every time because his fans always shoot the messenger. But maybe I'll leave them up this time. Third and fourth are replies to me talking about transphobia
The cluelessness of this reminds me a lot of the NFT grift. The thing about NFTs was that it was mainly something finance bros were into, and when they were trying to worm their way into gaming, their pitches were an abyssal trench of bad ideas because they couldn't grasp why people played games.
Do indie games need someone like me, who prompts AI to make marketing materials?
I should try Starfield again. It came out at a time when I wasn't in the mood for a big RPG, so I decided to wait until it got some updates and DLC. It's got both now, so maybe - oh wait, I just checked the file size. It's 128gb. That would take over a week to download. Oh well, maybe another time.
It seems they're trying a new strategy: "We've build a machine. It will kill us all. Give us 70 quattuordecillion dollars to run it."
Every single AI company's business plan is just: "We've built a machine. It will be god sometime in the future. Give us 70 quattuordecillion dollars to run it."
Crazy how new games actually look worse than they did a decade ago because you have to turn the quality down just to run them at a stable framerate.
i think one big factor (among many) as to why AI has had such a foothold in coding spaces is because the majority of people dont consider programming to be art
"I mean its fully human made, AI was just used to assist with overlooking the codebas-" block.
I was already honored to be a voice in their game, but now I’m DOUBLY grateful to have @doublefine.com’s continued support as they unabashedly celebrate our collab! (And please don’t worry. While my success & public joy seem to be upsetting to some, I feel like I’m getting to live my dream life!)
Double Fine's decision to cast Erika Ishii has sparked harassment and abuse online, prompting the studio to shut down replies.
I'm not much of a Pokémon person, but my son is & trying to buy him cards at retail prices has been nigh on impossible the last couple of years, and I refuse to pay scalpers for anything. So it warms the cockles of my heart to see so many of them having a full meltdown about the recent set. Enjoy!!
dear content creators: if your game's content is delayed or the release schedule is slowed down, do not keep calling it dead. most people with jobs other than "play the game" can handle a month of nothing, even if it personally bums you out and forces you to change plans. but dooming hurts everyone
seeing some posts around about Dusklight being an ai port, i'd appreciate it if people stopped spreading misinfo or taking various discord messages out of context. Dusklight does not rely on ai, and is stated as such in the readme. any third-party fork/mod that uses ai is unrelated to us
Still patiently waiting to be "left behind" by AI rather than it chasing me across every damn space like a slasher in a low budget flick.
y'all ever think about how people like to be so adamant that games are art and then now we're finding out that like 90% of them don't think coding counts as part of the artistic process (so it's fine to use ai) you know the part of the process in which you make a game
Animal Crossing town building & management + Tomodachi character creation & interactions + Pokemon Mystery Dungeon gameplay... 🤔
Bluesky is such a "Read Headline only, Insert Snark" ass social media platform that you "Smart intellectuals that are NOTHING like those Twitter dummies!" can't fucking read to save your lives. You let snark take over any response, you're not the wittiest in the room. Shut up, read. Comprehend.

This headline is misleading, if you read the article he specifically says that it's being discontinued because as he retires from judging, he's unable to find someone who is able to be a judge, implied because of scheduling & workloads, not because there's no more creative people or no one suitable.
