Too Weird To Fail

Gosh I hope @haydendonnell.bsky.social is working up a piece about Cycleway Derangement Syndrome… Just so bizarre to act all publicly miffed about a bike lane that *didn’t even exist* at the time one is claiming to have been inconvenienced by it?! Most peculiar indeed. 🚲👻🥴 bsky.app/profile/jenn...

The cycleway on that map (shown in green) wasn't there in 2023 when Luxon lived in Kate Sheppard apartments. The cycleway on lower Molesworth Street has only been recently added. #NZpol

Luxon didn't live in Wellington in the 1980s. He moved there to work for Unilever in 1993, the year after he left the University of Canterbury. The car racing relied on ratepayer funding, which was withdrawn in 1995, the year he moved to Sydney.

Low voter turnout is one of the biggest things conservative politics has going for it at a local level (in the cities at least) so I'd be careful what you wish for.

“The most important thing is we’ve got incredibly creative, talented, innovative, aspirational, ambitious people. I’ve lived all over the world for 16 years, and I can tell you, no one beats a Kiwi.” 1. You didn't live all over the world. You lived in Chicago and Canada 2. You don't like us at all

Delighted to be at Dr. Ayesha Verrall’s campaign launch today. Ayesha is an MP will get things done for Wellington, and knows how to represent everyone in our City. We have 84 days until we can get rid of this one term government, and start looking after people again.

Ayesha Verral Speaking

I've never met Gareth Morgan and he comes across as a bit of a plonker; or at least: a techbro-adjacent white male who thinks success in one area means ability in many other areas. This puts me off but is not a showstopper.

More of an admission than an accusation, but: the thing that makes them attractive (techocratic rationalism) is also what makes them questionable. I *love* "why don't we just do things gud"! But what I've discovered is that trying to do rationalism without relationships and community is a dead end.

I'm going to get absolutely rinsed on bsky for this but: convince me not to vote for Opportunity. 50+ white male, former swing voter, been a Green voter for ~20+ years. If Opps drift around 5%, voting to get them over the line is perhaps the strongest way to keep NACTFIRST out. 1/n

A petty reason to crow over Chris Penk, but as Minister for Land Information he nixed changing Petone to Pito One and Russell to Kororāreka, and wouldn’t add a macron to Rangitīkei and Manawatū. These name proposals are thoroughly researched and consulted for years, but he declined them on vibes.

Not really poverty – although I don't think he claimed that. He was a year ahead of me at Burnside High, and one of a cohort of kids from the state houses pepper-potted around Bryndwr. So, solo mum, state house + the ability to attend a big, modern secondary school.

When there was a sudden, intense and terrifying media panic about The Left tyrannically oppressing men who were credibly accused of sexual assault by multiple people, many of them Epsteined up to the eyeballs, I simply put two and two together, because I am not a rube.
