"As long as young women have to enter male-controlled spaces to fully participate in campus life, fraternities will have a form of power that no student organization should have." - essential reading from my @uwsoc.bsky.social colleague Chloe Hart www.usatoday.com/story/opinio...

Because he's one of the only people standing next to a Republican going, "this person is a piece of shit, I don't respect him, neither should you, he's fucking evil and he needs to go, and I don't care if it makes me sound rude saying it" LIKE EVERY DEMOCRAT SHOULD BE DOING??? MAYBE???

Figuring out why Ossoff is so effective is an interesting task. I think he's mastering a kind of stern dignity that is uniquely compelling in contrast to the clownish cruelty of the other side. I think the other person who's kind of hit on the same thing is AOC, though in a different register

People are too obsessed with Nazi Germany as their fascism template. Well, this is US Federal fascism in 2026. Yesterday's Livestream execution Pay Per View edition is U.S. fascism 2026 style. We're here now. We have to internalize this.

One of the most disconcerting moments of living in this timeline of the world in the U.S. is that A LOT of people in this country keep acting like there's a special line that needs to be crossed for fascism to *arrive.* The reality is that we are CURRENTLY living under Federal fascism. NOW.

Important thing wrt political science and the NSF, it isn't just about 'woke' in the usual race/gender theory sense. Republicans have been angered by hardnosed quant findings that have been inconvenient to the GOP on things like gerrymandering, campaign finance, voter ID, political violence, etc

We've probably learned more about American politics from the ANES than any other single data source. The same is true for the GSS and sociology. Both of these are gone if Congress acquiesces to these NSF cuts.

According to MIT News, Margaret Hamilton died at the age of 90. "A profoundly influential computer scientist best known for leading the software engineering team at MIT’s Instrumentation Lab during NASA’s Apollo program". This famous photo 🔽 inspired the For All Mankind character Margo Madison.

Isn’t it great that free speech advocates are in power now? After the dark days of America’s Free Speech Crisis (2015-2024) it’s a breath of fresh air. Congrats to the people who stood tall despite the brutal crackdown of the US Cultural Revolution, banged the crisis drums, and helped get us here.

Alabama’s New “Gulf of America” Mandate Impacts Colleges

Republican lawmakers say faculty can only call it the Gulf of Mexico for “historical purposes” in academic courses. Journalists are constrained by the restriction, too.
