It is mad that we have, somehow, allowed net zero - a policy common to all major parties under 5 years ago and supported by a majority of the public - to become a synoym for mad radicalism. It is doubly mad that we've allowed this to happen during the hottest summer on record.

My favourite tip for dealing with a water shortage is to turn off the tap when you are cleaning your teeth. Apparently it’s a very common habit to keep the tap running, but drilled out of me now.

The report’s recommendations set out a new approach to improving dying, through better conversations, clearer records, and greater professional confidence in end-of-life decision-making. Together we can create a system, where respecting people’s decisions feels normal, safe and supported.

We heard from the professionals we interviewed about a form of “death denial” in professional culture, which is not primarily personal but deeply embedded in the structures that underpin healthcare practice. It is reinforced by training, hierarchy, system pressures and fragmented record systems.
