Bob Hill, creator and performer of Hilda the Haku-hasin (Bambioid) character, designed by Jerry Collins, was one of the first non-mascot style full-body animal character costumes. Bob was an artist, model-maker and a character performer at Disneyland. I was his photographer.

A few pictures from a 1988 photoshoot of Hilda the Bamboid (a fursuit/character created and worn by Robert Hill). Robert Hill might very well be one of the first ever modern fursuiters.

Today we would like to recognize Ken Sample aka Ken Cougar. A Black man who is credited with creating and coining the term "Fursona". While drawing one of his "Exotics" Ken drew a Cougar character that looked strikingly like himself. Attendees of this conference also wanted their own characters!

8. As long as trans people have an opposition party standing in unity against anti-trans policies, every ban, remains reversible. But if enough Dems see transphobia as acceptable, then trans rights could be eroded for a generation, with no mechanism left to reverse the losses, similar to UK Labour.

4. Now we know why. After prodding by Erin In The Morning, the caucus has revealed the answer: the Ohio Democratic Party itself demanded the criticism be removed, effectively barring those within the party from publicly critiquing a major candidate's transphobia.

As a new caucus, we are still learning the ropes when it comes to being an internal part of the ODP. While operating outside of the party, we were afforded a bit more freedom with respect to our communications with the public. By posting a statement without going through the official approval process we inadvertently broke the rules we agreed to when we were recognized as an internal caucus. 😬 We don’t necessarily agree with this policy and we are still negotiating how we can best comply with the party’s regulations while continuing to advocate for our members. However, despite our protests, ODP insisted that the post be removed and we follow procedure. After deleting the original statement, we promptly asked about submitting the post for approval through the proper channels so that it could be reposted. At this point, ODP staff informed us that a meeting with Acton was on the table. After thorough discussion, caucus leadership determined this offer aligned with our goal to bring our message directly to her. We believe she stands the best chance of winning in November by having a full picture of what her constituents want and we are glad she has agreed to meet with us. This is a good sign. We will advocate for her campaign to stop making ineffective right-wing concessions and focus on her plan to make all our lives affordable. She is our only option in this race and not a single Ohioan will be better off if her Republican opponent is elected to office. We are looking forward to working with her and helping her to better understand these nuanced issues so she is able to WIN – which will undoubtedly take the support of EVERYONE on the collective Left!

3. The rebuke from her own party was severe. The Ohio Democrats Progressive Caucus, an official advisory group of the state party, issued a blistering page-long statement declaring that its members were now less willing to doorknock for her—before the post puzzlingly vanished shortly thereafter.

So, if you live in Ohio, or know anyone who lives in Ohio, please share the news that the Acton campaign couldn't even properly hold a do-nothing "We hear you" type call about trans rights, and just flood them with complaints. This is inexcusable on so many levels. (8/8)
