Higher Education is not just about training workers, but also about training citizen leaders and good citizenship in part means thinking that the details matter, that getting them right matters, because it impacts some of your fellow citizens. "It only matters if job" is poison to citizenship.

As an aside, I think one of the essential skills being trained in college that the 'college is for training workers' paradigm devalues to its peril is the ability and willingness to treat dry, academic matters as serious and worth getting right, rather than dismissing them.

Mid-20th century (and modern!) conceptions of the Vikings are dangerously romanticized. While the Vikings were *not* fascist (again, it's a modern ideology) they were obscenely violent in ways that are often elided by both modern and Nazi scholarship.
