From a cartoonist who writes stupidly long comics: I force myself to do a little bit every day, even if I don’t want to or feel like shit or don’t feel like I have time. Even just opening a script on my phone and writing one line. Ink one panel. Just do something
Writer friends with full time day jobs: how do you find enough time and energy to complete large scale creative projects around the edges?

I truly feel for kids growing up now who will have to unlearn using AI, but if you've been writing for more than 2 years it is the easiest thing in the world to just Keep Doing The Thing You Did and ignore AI tools!! It makes me feel crazy that people act like this isn't the case!!!
it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun
A strip done in collaboration with the @humanartistry.bsky.social , starring Question Hound as he gets some unwanted help for a comic he’s working on:
I've been thinking about this sign for 6 months. a phrase I'll treasure forever. a metaphor with boundless potential
when it pays off to make jokes in art stream chats :)
"Agent Rook's liaisons with the anomalous vampire did not go unnoticed by facility staff."
Hatred of AI now reaching the level of cultural consensus that becomes attractive to advertisers
The Shinra Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stopped monitoring the status effect that turns you into a frog.
Emi (my dog) has an adorable and funny tendency to check on me by poking her head in the room, then leaving to get comfortable somewhere else.
Very occasionally, I draw comics (this could have been a video)
also multi season runs literally is job security. a show running for 8 seasons is basically a decade of guaranteed jobs for actors, writers, artists, designers, and anything else adjacent to it. It builds portfolios and allows for mentoring/training. maddening streaming turned TV into a gig hustle
it's actually fucking me up a bit to recognize streaming stole culture away from me. The fact I can look at a show and feel utterly spoiled that it's more than one season of 8 episodes feels like I was gaslit into thinking anything more is impossible despite it being what the norm was for decades
