HCMC is an indispensable Level 1 trauma center for all patients — including my daughter who arrived there gravely injured in pedestrian-SUV crash. It's responsible for training generations of doctors. SICU nurses and TBI staff are exceptional. Count yourself lucky if you have no reason to know that.

I toured HCMC today. This public safety-net hospital serves everyone no matter ability to pay and is one of the highest-ranking in the US for trauma and other services. It serves all of Minnesota, not just Hennepin County. It’s a great public asset and we will make it stronger.

Healthcare professionals at HCMC literally saved my life and provided the best treatment from primary care to specialty to surgery.

Two: (1) Visiting a friend struck by an auto in outstate Minnesota & transported to HCMC, where she received outstanding care. (2) Accompanying a seriously burned family member, initially treated at another ED in the metro, but they referred onward to HCMC for the best care, which it was.

June 2020, my dad was found by the side of a west metro bike trail. He has no memory of getting on his bike, what route he took, or how he crashed. Someone found him, called an ambulance, and he was taken to HCMC. Because that's where you go when that kind of thing happens to you. ❤️

(8/9)...in Hennepin County foot the bill for a hospital that serves the whole state. But the alternative is letting this essential hospital collapse entirely. That's worse.

(7/9) The leading proposal at the Legislature is expanding the Hennepin County sales tax — the same tax that paid for Target Field — from 0.15% to 1%. That money would go to keeping HCMC's doors open. Is it a perfect solution? No. A local sales tax means working families...

(6/9) Mayo has $16 billion in assets and calls itself a nonprofit. HCMC lost $9.5 million taking care of the rest of us.

(5/9) Meanwhile, the Mayo Clinic made $1.5 billion in profit in 2025. Closed six rural clinics the same year. Spent 0.7% of its revenue on charity care — less than a fifth of the national average.

(4/9) Just like public schools, roads, or running water, public hospitals aren’t about charity, they are for self-preservation and mutual benefit.

(3/9) HCMC provided more than $100 million in free care last year alone — double what it was in 2020. If that stops, those patients and that cost will flood hospitals from Wisconsin to North Dakota.

When the worst accidents happen, the Minnesota Nurses Association and @afscme.bsky.social workers of HCMC are there for us. When for-profit hospitals and private insurance companies turn people away, MNA and AFSCME workers of HCMC are there for us. Now we need to be there for them. (1/2)

Workers w/ MNA, AFSCME, HCAPE (paramedics), CIR (interns & residents), and The Guild (translators & interpreters) - all Hennepin County Medical Center employees - held a press conference this morning calling on legislators to prioritize work to save HCMC when they return next week from #mnleg break.

If Minnesota lets HCMC close it will be a disaster. Private healthcare is failing, we should be reinvesting in public hospitals, not starving them of resources.

The entirety of Minneapolis is in the HCMC ambulance service area, blue below. Minneapolis fire doesn't run ambulances, and I don't believe North Memorial or St. Paul fire.have capacity by themselves. There are just gonna be more people dying of emergent conditions.
